All the statistics in the world won't convince the right-wingers and their echo chamber of anything different than what they already "know": anything that takes money from armed police (y'know the good guys with guns) is one step on the slippery slope to socialism. :brood:

While I think the program is fine, the cops are doing a shitty job with statistics collection by discouraging reporting of crimes in the first place, so these are very much not all the statistics in the world.

Don't worry, the government has heard our frustrations. As a result, they are going to add more police funding.

Biden says Tuesday's primary results show voters want harder stance on crime and gun violence
    Source: https://www.cnn.com/2022/06/08/politics/biden-crime-primary-results/index.html

Also, they're going to take it out of the COVID-19 funding, so at least we'll have that going for us.

Biden should send the CBP to the justices' homes or apartments in DC to look for illegal immigrants, see how they feel after that.

I guess it pays to be a Nazi. At least when you're a cop.

In some parts of the country, if you sock $1.5 million into investments, you could lead a reasonably secure life without ever having to work again.

Hopefully lawyers' fees and taxes will keep the bastard from reaching that level of comfort.

The bill would make several changes if passed into law, including:

    • Student identification cards, which are now accepted to vote, would no longer be accepted to vote.
    • Voters would no longer have the opportunity to sign a legal affidavit to verify their identity to vote.
    • An Idaho license to carry a concealed weapon would become a new form of identification accepted to vote.
    • The state would create a $200,000 fund to pay for state identification cards accepted for voting to be issued free of charge for Idahoans who do not have a driver’s license.
    • Individuals who register to vote at the polls on Election Day would now need to prove their citizenship, verify their address and verify their identity to vote by bringing in additional documents, such as a U.S. passport or birth certificate, a utility bill (not including cell phones) that is no more than six months old or a lease agreement or mortgage or a current Idaho driver’s license or military identification card.

    Holy shit.
First off, student ID is no good (do you get to vote on campus there?), but your CCW is? 'merka, tsk...

second, you know what i needed to provide to vote last time? a card they mailed me, and my gov't health card.

if i had none of that, not even an address, I still could've voted with one of the guarantors we had at work.

Oh, and it took under 15 minutes including the time to walk around the corner to the voting station.

You guys really suck at voter enfranchisement.

I'm sorry, did this movement make some recent gains that I wasn't aware of? Last time I checked, it flopped horribly and Biden said, and I quote, "The answer is not to defund the police. It's to fund the police." Doesn't seem like there's as much support for this as the looney left thought.

There was strong support to defund the police, and while there still is support, it's not as robust thanks to the efforts of how our culture reacts to the ideas of restorative law. There's even stronger support for Medicare for All or some form of universal healthcare system. Just because our current crop of so-called leaders won't follow through on it doesn't mean it's not popular. Unfortunately, the narrative is pushed, by major media outlets, that defunding the police has lead to higher crime, despite the fact that almost no one has actually defunded the police, especially not Joe Biden, who has proposed and continued to propose increased funding. That we also have cops turned mayors, like New York's Eric Adams, doesn't help because he's very much a pro-police mayor (may he eat shit), and has a vested interest in pushing the idea that we need more cops. All of this erodes what was staunch support.

The US has an unhealthy fixation with showering money and power to its police and military, spanning generations. Hell, Democrats run on being "law and order," and "tough on crime," so I'm not certain that culture will change any time soon. You have nothing to worry about. The police will still be around to let children die, and to murder black people standing on street corners.

Don't ever let anyone tell you that the US doesn't engage in propaganda. We certainly do, and it's often in favor of our police force.

That's because Democrats get donations from police unions and there are military bases in Democrat strong holds that provide jobs. They can't risk pissing off those two groups.

So of course there will be more crime, creating a need for more money to pay for more police. Don't you love it when a plan comes together? :brood:
