They have to have a rematch where Obi wins to restore the canon of Vader wanting revenge for the last time they met in ANH.

Not really - as someone pointed out elsewhere, Ben repeating the "you're too focused on victory" lesson here is enough of an "own" of Vader he'd still be pissed by ANH. It shows that he's still a student.

Obi-Wan has never been about "I'm a badass Jedi" - he's GOOD but he's had issues with folk like Jango before. Where he shines though is as a chessplayer, not a lightsaber duellist. The diplomat. The misdirectionist.

In his final fight with Maul, he won by psychoanalysing him (shifting to Qui-Gon's stance so Maul would try to kill him the same way, then countering the moves). Even then, he only fought at all because he knew Maul had guessed his secret (Luke) and couldn't be reasoned with.

When Vader says "now I am the master!" he means he's not going to overcommit and fight flashily this time, and he doesn't - he's as cautious as Ben in their ANH duel. But Ben's not just playing for time here - he's got an even longer game in mind through Luke, and doesn't mind dying so he can fulfil that destiny.

Wow! This was a great episode! I stand by my statement that Reva is the most interesting character since Darth Maul. Vader should’ve killed her though.

A really good episode this time. A little slow in the beginning, but the last scenes really paid off. Got to see Obi-Wan and Vader in their prime and also another duel.

The Empire must have a massive floor cleaning and polishing budget. Almost all their facilities have black floors everywhere. Yet they're always shiney and never scuffed. No footprints, no marks, just always shiney. Maybe if they spent a bit less on their floor cleaning/polishing budget and more on their fire arms training with the Storm Troopers, the Storm Troopers would have better aim.

Each episode of Obi-Wan Kenobi mirrors one of George Lucas' Star Wars films. The Obi-Wan Kenobi TV series is easily the most exciting since Lucasfilm launched their Disney+ shows. It serves as connective tissue between the prequels and the original trilogy, featuring the return of both Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen - with the latter getting the opportunity to play Darth Vader in all his dark glory.

Obi-Wan Kenobi is set during the Dark Times of the Empire's reign, and yet it has avoided the mistakes of The Book of Boba Fett by wasting no time taking its hero off Tatooine. Every episode has been mostly set on a different world: Tatooine, Daiyu, Mapuzo, and the water moon Nur in the Mustafar system. This approach has created a real sense of narrative momentum, helping broaden the galaxy rather than reducing it to a handful of planets that have been seen countless times before.

RELATED: Who Were The Jedi In The Tombs In Obi-Wan Kenobi Episode 4

There is, however, another major reason for the Obi-Wan Kenobi TV show's success - one that hasn't been noticed by many viewers, but is becoming increasingly clear as it continues. The story will be remarkably familiar to many viewers, simply because it adopts classic beats from the main Star Wars movies. In fact, each episode is a homage to one of George Lucas' films.

Obi-Wan Kenobi Episode 1 Mirrors The Phantom Menace
    [IMG]

Obi-Wan Kenobi episode 1 mirrors Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace, drawing particular inspiration from the section set on the desert planet Tatooine. The parallels are quite overt, with the Chosen One's son growing up in seclusion on Tatooine, and Obi-Wan watching from a distance as the young Luke dons very familiar goggles and dreams of podracing. Meanwhile, Queen Amidala's daughter grows up on an idyllic homeworld and uses a decoy like her mother - in this case as a deception to try and wriggle out of state duties. She is spirited away from Alderaan and must be found by a Force-user, an inversion of the films where Padmé escaped the Trade Federation and was hunted by a Sith rather than sought after by a Jedi.

Obi-Wan Kenobi Episode 2 Mirrors Attack Of The Clones
    [IMG]

Obi-Wan Kenobi episode 2 moves on to mirror Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones, and signifies this from the start with a brief cameo from a clone trooper; appropriately enough, he's played by Temeura Morrison - the actor who played Jango Fett. It then riffs on Anakin and Padmé's attempt to hide in Coruscant's underworld, with Obi-Wan and Leia trying to keep their heads down as they make their way through the underworld planet Daiyu. Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones saw Padmé targeted by bounty hunters, and in the same way Reva calls every bounty hunter on Daiyu down on Obi-Wan's head. As the action continues, Obi-Wan finds himself reflecting on how similar Leia is to her mother Padmé, bemused at her stubborn insistence on taking charge.

Obi-Wan Kenobi Episode 3 Mirrors Revenge Of The Sith
    [IMG]

The similarities between Obi-Wan Kenobi and George Lucas' Star Wars movies become even more evident in episode 3, which explicitly parallels Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith. Obi-Wan and Leia are pursued to the planet Mapuzo, where Obi-Wan must face Darth Vader himself in a duel that's deliberately evocative of their previous battle on Mustafar. Obi-Wan is as powerless to resist the Sith as the entire Jedi Order was in the face of Order 66, with Darth Vader grasping him telekinetically and torturing him. The Dark Lord of the Sith ignites flames, and throws Obi-Wan on to them, burning him in an act of revenge for his own suffering on Mustafar. There are other subtle moments of mirroring as well; the scene where Darth Vader commands Reva from his throne room on Mustafar feels so very similar to the one where Palpatine initiated Order 66. This is the darkest moment of the entire Obi-Wan Kenobi story, ending with Leia in the clutches of the Sith and Obi-Wan shattered and broken.

Obi-Wan Kenobi Episode 4 Mirrors A New Hope
    [IMG]

Obi-Wan Kenobi episode 4 moves on with the saga, mirroring George Lucas' first Star Wars film from 1977. Leia resists Reva's interrogation, just as she will resist Darth Vader's in a decade's time, proving too strong-willed for Force torture. Obi-Wan then breaks into a heavily-guarded Imperial facility, moving through the shadows just as Alec Guinness' version of the character would skulk through the shadows of the Death Star. There are hints of hope, as Obi-Wan regains his confidence with the Force even in the darkest place, and he and Leia successfully break out of Fortress Inquisitorius - but there is a twist to the tale, because the Empire has planted a homing beacon on Leia, using her favorite droid against her. That perfectly mirrors Darth Vader's own Millennium Falcon strategy, where he placed a homing beacon on the ship and tracked it to the Rebel base.

Also the "haha Vader was three steps ahead of you all along" reveal had shades of Cloud City, and the "Vader reveals he knew your true identity before the fight began" stuff at the end was highly reminiscent of his ESB fight with Luke.

Better than it has been but still, this feels really low on the production values - in the Obi/Anakin flashback at the beginning, Coruscant basically looked like a bad painting. And while Vader was awesome with the ship, still felt the CGI was pretty bad

Very little Leia in this one thankfully, think that's directly related to why this was one of the better episodes

Reva is a badass, nice to her character fleshed out. That scene with her and Obi Wan talking through the door was really good. Will be interesting to see where she goes from here

Vader tossing Reva half her lightsaber so she could fight was such a power/dick move, so great

Seems like there's a lot to wrap up in the finale next week, doesn't it?

Perhaps he was putting her through her paces to potentially become his protege. Between Padme and Luke, he's always been looking for someone to help him overthrow the Emperor. I'm sure there were other candidates between those two.

This show reminds me a lot of Solo.

yeah... the finale was anti climatic at best.

The Vader fight was pretty good, as was the battle with Reva, but no real closure on Reva or Haja's stories. It gives her future arc potential, but him? They could've rolled him into the transport captain character and made him useful, at least.

The timing for travel between locations gets fudged way too often and took me out of the story.

It's too bad that they got all the talent together and didn't give them enough of a story to work with other than to set precedents for all the plot holes in the OT and somehow justify them.

I was meh at the beginning of the sixth episode, and I thought the reason they left Reza alive is they wanted her to go full darkside and was giving her the rope to hang herself. And she almost did.

The ISD chasing a transport and not catching it - why would anyone fear the Empire? And why don't they ever send in the TIEs to take out the engine? It's a problem. It's one thing when you've got Han on the Milennium Falcon and the scenes are intense, it's quite another when it becomes a trope and lacks all suspense.

But the ending nailed it in my opinion. Loved the bridge scenes between ROTS and ANH, and the little details like where Luke's favorite toy came from. And especially Vader's line that he was the one who killed Anakin Skywalker. And the fight scene was good - though now I have to go watch the fan updated light saber battle between Obi-Wan and Vader as it should be put into every copy of SW:ANH that exists. :D

And the Leia scenes with Obi Won rang true and were a great prequel to her call for OW being their only hope in ANH.

So some bad, a lot good, overall was pretty happy and hope they put out more like this.

Actually, the number of times people escape ISDs is probably the reason Palps wanted the Death Star. The Empire had 25,000 Star Destroyers each capable of devastating a planet from orbit (once any planetary shield is down - and they have enough ground forces aboard to solve that). But the "local systems" STILL aren't afraid enough of the Empire to stay in line...

    So superlaser it is.

This was a really good episode, they gave me everything I was looking for. It was very emotional and tied everything together quite nicely. The only major complaint I have is the lack of prequel music during the Obiwan/Vader fight. This was a nice remach and they both said the lines from ROTS so it's like poetry, it rhymes. What little we got of Hayden I enjoyed and it proves to me that he's not a bad actor, he was just given really bad dialogue. I thought it was a wise choice to have Vader's voice be half Hayden and half James Earl Jones. I like how Vader has fully embraced his darkness by telling Obiwan that it wasn't his failure and that he didn't kill Anakin, it gives Obiwan some closure and he can let go of his guilt he's been carrying this whole time. Very powerful scene.

The moments he had with Leah were really good too, you can tell that he cares a great deal for her and he has a great respect for Anakin and Padme. This whole episode evoked a lot of the comradely we saw in The Clone Wars between Obiwan and Anakin that you don't really get much of in the movies. Nice Palpatine cameo, I kind of figured that was coming. Also Qui Gon at the end was very nice too. All in all, I liked this episode a lot and the series as a whole, I thought was pretty good. Not flawless, but pretty good.

I will say this, I think the story could have been told in a movie as originally planned, but It would have to be three hours long and you'd probably have to cut out the inquisitors and just make it about Obiwan and Vader, which could work, IMO. Like I said before, I never cared much for the inquisitors that much anyway, so I'd probably be fine with that.

Ewan McGregor was fantastic throughout, he really sold it and really picked up where he left off pretty flawlessly. He even brought in some of the Clone Wars Obiwan vibes. This was slow burn, but totally worth it. I'm glad the final duel wasn't all flips and jumps and stuff like that. Well done, Debrah Chow, well done.

Yep. They gave me the Vader / Obi-Wan duel when both were at the height of their power, and they nailed the fuck out of it. The whole series was great. I wouldn't mind more of these if they were done with the same amount of care.

For me this episode hit home. I know what it's like to carry around a lot of guilt for something you weren't responsible and you couldn't have prevented for, but you blamed yourself anyway. It can be crippling and you're just afraid to talk to anyone, interact with anyone and you end up just kind of existing, but not living. This feeling and that type of living is conveyed really well in this series. It's not until his conversation with Anakin who tells him it's not his fault, that Obiwan can let go of his guilt. He sees that Anakin truly was murdered by Darth Vader. He calls him Darth as he walks away. It's really good character development for both Vader and Obiwan. Obiwan can be a Jedi again and all that was left of Anakin is dead at least until ROTJ. All of this is shown on Ewan Mcgregor's face, it's really good acting.

It’s like he told Reva, that doesn’t make him weak, it makes him stronger. And he honors those who have been killed by not becoming a monster - by murdering another person even if that person “deserves” it. I think Obi Wan, like Luke, believes there is still good in him - that Anakin is still in there.

I agree. That makes no sense. He already thought he had killed Anakin once on Mustafar. He basically left him for dead and assumed he perished.

And if he came to the understanding in this episode that his friend no longer existed, he shouldn't have hesitated to kill Vader the same way he killed Maul or Grievous.

Leaving him alive puts the whole galaxy in danger. Obi-Wan does not believe Anakin is still in there and capable of redemption. He says so himself throughout the original trilogy.

He evens tell Luke that Vader has to die. So it makes no sense that he didn't just finish the job himself when he had the chance. Instead he waits 8 years for Luke to grow up and passes the responsibility on to him.

This series was... average? Very by the numbers. They could have called this Star Wars: Connect The Dots.

Zero tension since we know everyone survives. And Reva wasn't an interesting enough new character to care about.

I'm sure we will get Star Wars: Reva at some point. How many shows and movies are in production now?

Of the upcoming shows I am interested in the Mandolorian Season 3 and the Ahsoka series, which will hopefully go in some different directions and explore some new ground.

And hopefully we never see Tatooine again. It's kind of ridiculous that we keep visiting the same planet over and over again (or some variation of it like Jakku).
