It's...okay. It has its pros and cons. I'm a social gamer and I've been playing with the same friends for about six or seven years now. So, that's a big draw for me.

The story portion of the game can be played completely solo. However, end-game content is team based. If you just want to get the story and putz around famous Trek landmarks, you'll be fine. You don't have to spend one penny to experience and enjoy story level content on normal difficulty. End-game, though, is different. The game has steadily become "Pay to Win" over the last half decade or so. But, if team based end-game doesn't interest you, there's no need to spend even a single cent.

They use different "starting experiences." You can start in 2409, TOS, or Discovery eras, but you will eventually end up in 2409. I won't tell you how because that would spoil the story.

And, even if you start in 2409, you can time-travel back to certain eras for some missions.

I still think the Romulan Republic storyline is the best starting experience (but a shame they force you into a Fed or Klingon alliance choice later because PvP can only handle two factions), but they did a good job updating the Fed and Klingon early missions to match. And the TOS storyline was good (haven't run a DSC character through).

The free ship for this summers event is the Farpoint space jellyfish.

Basically, yeah. But more seizure inducing. :flow:

Those things are fucking obnoxious. I hate when they show up in a queue. I unlocked the marginal trait on one toon and shitcanned it.

They're seizure inducing fun killers. Marginally useful for TFOs where you're protecting a stationary target and the enemies are coming to you, but still. Awful.
Maybe he'll become the next J'Ula and we'll have to complete a mission as him. :what:

Having not heard Wheaton on podcasts, I will say he's managing a fairly decent gruff baritone here, if that's not how he normally sounds.

Sadly, the trailer does seem to imply there might be a mission where you play as him - or as Tilly accompanying him. There doesn't seem room in those cutscenes for the PC crew to be there as well.

What's the polygon count on Tilly? Can most graphic cards handle that amount?

The V'Ger space visuals and ground map are cool, and the broad strokes of the story aren't too bad, but both the "episode" and the Task Force Operation are long, tedious slogs that I won't be repeating anytime soon. Gonna be 19 repetitions of Counterpoint instead. Love the grind love the grind love the grind.

Bodyshaming crap aside, it turns out you don't play AS Emperor Wesley, but as your mirror self, the Inquisitor (oh smeg indeed matey).

Leeta pulling her old trump card out of the bag was cool - but then it didn't help her beat YOU so why think it would help here? Wes breaking out his Traveller powers to neutralize your fleet was a better move.

The whole storyline is a bit of a boost for V'Ger and its mirror though - OK so it has Leeta's buddy scared... but is it really more powerful than, say - Kevin Uxbridge? Or the Q? Are they gonna refuse to step in?

On another note, cool to see Cali-Class ships in the Alliance taskforce (listed as "Federation Cruiser"). May be a general gameplay thing for fleets in story missions but was much appreciated here, especially as said Cali survived the furball and got home safe with me.

That gimmick has about run its course. Getting tired of picking a well-developed, well-equipped toon just to see it all swept aside for a basic build with a few basic abilities and an artificial voice box. Tired of thinking "This rifle sucks ass! ," "Hey, that kit module would have been helpful here," or "My landing party would fuck these drones up."

I don't care. I'll take Admiral Leeta flaming on and taking her shot, even with the way they've done her dirty with that new face texture, over being scolded by any version of Wesley fucking Crusher, any goddamn day.

Looks like the Wrath of Wes is halted by bringing in his Genesis Device - Bev, or more accurately Mirror Bev.

Maybe she has a whole harem of ghost candles to burn him with?

But either way, McFadden's back for PIC S3 so may as well get her on STO too.

I can't decide if Hwil Hweaton or Gates McFadden is the worst voice actor, but one thing is certain. Those missions are WAYYYY too fucking long and repetitive.

I've been itching to get back into STO. I've been out for years, and now I'm on a Linux machine (well, I have been for a few years, but I've been away from STO longer). I'm going to give it a shot and if it works, I'm going to go see Blazin' Bev. :D

Oh, and stop off at Vulcan to pay tribute to the Leonard Nimoy/Spock statue. :tos:

Well, it worked. I was able to login and everything seems to be running smoothly, so I went to the Fleet I'm a member of, and just crammed a whole bunch of resources in it as a kind of apology for not being there for 3... 4... 5 years. lol
