I ask "why participate if you are guaranteed to never be heard?" and you are honestly saying you hear "I require guaranteed victory"?

Bullshit. You're just trying to be annoying.

    Well, how about this?

"It's wrong for the majority to impose its will on the minority, but it's good for the minority to be able to impose its will on the majority, but only if it's the right minority, by which I mean rural whites."

Absolute, 1000% unmitigated bullshit. You have the same right to be heard as anyone else.

What you don't have the right to is dominate the conversation, or get your way the majority of the time.

I sure am glad wiser people than you conceived of things like an electoral college before you were around to fuck things up.

The electoral college was instituted as a means of racial entitlement for Southern slave owners. I'm not surprised you support a system that was racist by design.

Remember when Storm said "I think there should be a little LESS democracy" and then it turned out he was a Nazi?
    Member that?
    I member that.
Pay attention to the democracy restriction people, might be a tell.

Without it, this continent could easily have resolved into a patchwork of balkanized nation-states, many of which never outlawed slavery, that did not survive WWII intact.

If you're looking to break up the union NOW, you have my permission. I don't care.

...as opposed the Balkanization that is going on right now? Texas is trying to secede. At least 15 states had trigger laws that went into effect today making all abortions illegal effective as soon as Roe was overturned. And in the decision (or maybe it was a concurrence) the conservative Supreme Court justices are not so subtly signaling the planned erosion of equal rights for minorities, women, and LGBT individuals. Anti-abortion states are planning legislation to prevent women from going to other states for an abortion, effectively trapping them.

So we'll have blue states in which there is full and equal citizenship for everyone, and red states that have reverted back to the 18th century where only white men could vote or had rights (which again, is what the electoral college was designed to protect).

One of those three things is already true. Florida is working on another. And TLS only limited himself to "ban gay marriage" in the Roe thread, but we all know where it's going.

I haven't even mentioned the Texas GOP wanting to overthrow the Voting Rights Act and stop blacks having a say yet. I mean, I shouldn't NEED to, since it's been fucking obvious with gerrymandering and closure of polling stations for YEARS that that's what they are doing.

But NOOOO it's poor Billy-Bob in Bumfuck, Tennessee who is somehow being "drowned out".

"Where it's going" is a lot of useless :thelurker: while the whole :turd: circles the bowl on the third flush. Nothing will change so long as there is a ready supply of tax paying consumer drones. Just gotta keep them in conflict with each other so the machine keeps chugging along.

No, it doesn't stand, you fucking slack-jawed mongoloid. I expect no guarantees and refuse to engineer collective outcomes. What I, and not the one-note strawman you have in mind, am saying is that you aren't offering much incentive to participate when you are explicitly laying out your intention to ignore me entirely.

That's not what I said, and I believe there was a "could have" in there. The hypothetical was this: No electoral college-> fewer states in the union-> smaller war machine to gin up for global conflict. Not claiming to be an expert historian here.

Would that not be the outcome of abolishing anything like an electoral college? Campaigning in 3 or 4 cities, while the rural people are told to shut the fuck up and get back behind the plow?

That reality does not exist today.

What does exist today needs to be addressed via laws. And the people who make laws are voted into office.

No. It can’t exist today. You’d be taking away freedoms from people who don’t wish to choose an agrarian way of life. If you’re about freedom, you wouldn’t even suggest such a thing.

Oh, no. :nono: I'm not forcing the choice on anyone. I'm pointing out that it IS a choice, and choice implies accountability. No matter what noises you people make, you are voting with your dollars for more "earn, consume, pay tribute, die."

And 14thdouchnozzle can't blow his dumb little comic strip out his ass. It's not a substitute for an argument.

I'm not offering solutions. I'm pointing out the fact that people WILL continue to pump money into the things they bitch about, insisting that no meaningful change will compromise their accustomed lifestyle or inconvenience them in the slightest.

So, why aren’t you already living an agrarian lifestyle?

Is it because you exist in the present? So, does everyone else. We all live in this existence. Right here, right now. Some people want change so badly they are willing to advocate for it. Others just … bitch.
