Tulsi is trump lite. So, that’s not any better.

Also, you obviously are not paying any attention to anything in reality. “The people” do not put up candidates. The party does. And the party may present a candidate the people want, but figure s/he won’t get many votes. If s/he does, they pull out the propaganda machine and convince everyone that candidate is unworthy.

Yep. She has a friendlier aesthetic, and that makes her seem reasonable, but give her enough time to speak, and her policies are just as draconian as any other hardcore conservative.

Going on Fox News doesn’t automatically make you Trump lite. I know a lot of people think that because they’ve lost touch with reality TDS is very strong around here.

People that say stuff like “TDS” lost touch with reality a long time ago. You might want to rethink your life choices.

Thinking about it on the way home we have to remember that all the power and influence in American society accumulated and accrued to wealthy white men, really until the last quarter of the 20th century.

Roe was one of those small ways in which women could claim their autonomy and not be reliant or dependent on a man to make life decisions for them. This is going to be the push/pull of American society for the next 100 years. Are those wealthy men ever going to accede to common sense or is it better that they not lose one ounce of power?

Perhaps if they could develop a way to perform abortions with a teeny tiny gun, then conservatives would bend over backwards to protect the right to have one. :chris:

WTF have you been? Groups like the Heritage Foundation have had teams of lawyers cranking out legislation to get Roe overturned for decades. As soon as Amy Covid Barrett was seated, Roe was done. And those teams of lawyers? They're just getting started. The oldest justices on the court next session will be: Thomas (74), Alito (72), Roberts (67), and Sotomayor (67). So, statistically speaking, the odds of there being a change in the make-up of the court for the next 10 years, are pretty slim.

This means that you can expect them to overturn a whole shitload of things, like contraceptives, gay marriage, interracial marriage, the government's ability to do much of anything other than buy weapons and bomb people, Heck, when people the court doesn't like decide to take up arms, you can expect them to ban guns, too. And they'll figure out a way to do it so that all the folks who now scream, "Dey ain't gonna get mah guns!" will happily hand them over.

I'm sure you don't believe me, but not only is it going to happen, far worse will happen as well. The only question is going to be on how long it takes them to do it.

That's the thing: every politician will put out lovely policy positions on a website, that's the easiest part of it is the promises, but you have to pay attention to what they say, who funds them, where their real interests lie.

At least reflect on the fact that you were in this case naively unable to see that the US right was in fact going to do the thing they kept saying they wanted to do, and how that might relate to other things they are currently doing where you also think the opponents are just scaremongering.

Republicans for 45 years: "We're going to dismantle Roe v. Wade."
Democrats for 45 years: "We need to protect Roe v. Wade."

Obama in 2007 vowed to codify Roe v. Wade if he became president.
In 2009, after becoming president, and having a supermajority, said that Roe v. Wade wasn't a priority.

Joe Biden vowed in 2019 that if he was elected president, he would codify Roe v. Wade.
In 2020, Joe Biden became president of the United States.

It is 2022, and Roe v. Wade has been struck down because it was never codified into law.

There was plenty of time for Democrats to do something about this. For years we heard "you need to vote blue to save womens rights." People did time and time again.
The fundraising emails from the DNC, and the DCCC, though, have been hitting the inbox in droves.

Yeah, the GOP are fucking fascists. Fuck the GOP.
The Democrats, though, are no better, and many conservative Democrats got us to where we are now.

Joe Biden now calls for non-violence as people line up at the Supreme Court to protest, telling people that violence isn't the answer, when women are about to have their rights violently taken from them, and the police at the Supreme Court building, along with snipers on the roof, will have no issue using violence against them.

No one should excuse what has happened, and while the heavy burden lays at the feet of the GOP, it needs to be understood that the Democrats stood by and watched it happen because their priorities were elsewhere. They didn't give a damn until it was too late, and the truth is most of them still don't give a damn (Nancy Pelosi can read a poem all she wants, she backed anti-abortion, pro-NRA candidate Henry Cueller). They won't be affected because the rich can always find ways around these laws. It's the poor, and it's minorities, it's marginalized populations who will bear the brunt of this legal dumpster fire, and all of it could have been prevented. The US is a fascist state and a failed society, and it's time some serious change came about, or it's only going to get worse from here.

I would add to that, "If it was about babies, every anti-choice conservative would adopt a litter of drug-addicted/disabled/behavioral problem children (not guaranteed to be infants) of assorted races, entirely at their own expense."

I have a problem with this one-sided portrayal of men as deadbeats, however. Women are just as capable of a "smash and dash" as men. It is also typically easier for mothers to exclude fathers from the child's life, and only the mother can lie about who the other parent is. Paternal support should absolutely be enforced, and paternity fraud should be just as vigorously punished.

Wouldn't any attempt to codify Roe be worthless so long as five unelected Republican shitstains have to power to declare it unconstitutional? Even a constitutional amendment is worthless so long as bad actors like Scalia and Thomas are willing to lie to implement their agenda and no legal recourse exists to overrule them.

Yes, women are just as capable of a “smash and dash”. The difference is, men don’t get pregnant and couldn’t care less anyway. If they did, there’d be a lot fewer ‘smash and dash” all the way around.

If a man is excluded from a child’s life, he can take it to court, a woman can’t get unpregnant going to court.

If a man feels a woman bore his child and she denies it, he can always take it to court and get a paternity test.
