I do wonder if we will see more of Mike and Gus. We know where they end up from BB. Was last Episode their end? We’re no longer watching a prequel I think. Though some have pointed out the registration on the Caddy was pre BB (2005 v 2008).
Another fantastic episode... although it feels like things are moving a bit too quickly now. In fairness, it's probably because I love this show so much and don't want it to be over.
It certainly looked that way. Both of their stories seemed to wrapped up as far as BCS is concerned. As for the time jump, it's apparently anywhere between 5 and 17 months and even going with the lengthier time, Saul is still close to three years from becoming Walt's lawyer.
I was thinking that Walter might show up at the end, but the first time that Walter and Saul meet, Saul is wearing a white shirt with a red striped tie. There may be another time jump later.
Yeah, there's going to be more time changes coming up for sure. I just noticed, rewatching BB, Saul wears a lot of tie collar bars....like Howard.
Howard left Saul his tie bars in his will. More likely he wears them as part of the suit, less likely as an homage. The will part is a joke.
Earlier this week, the image for the upcoming episode "Nippy" used an image of Walt and Jesse instead of the S6 poster. I read somewhere that supposedly we're supposed to get two Gene episodes this season, so it could be that Monday's is the last "prequel" thing we see before jumping to post-Breaking Bad.
Not sure if I ever mentioned this, but I was in Albuquerque for work a few times many years ago and visited the Cinnabon where Gene worked. Yeah, it's supposed to be in Nebraska but the actual filming location is in the Cottonwood Mall in ABQ. At the time, the artwork in the Cinnabon still had an Omaha theme. I ate a nice Cinnabon there with some diabetes on the side.
Interesting. Jeff had to be recast because the actor who portrayed him in earlier seasons was cast in HBO's We Own This City. I didn't really care for the new guy. Based on many of the sports references between Gene and the security guy, this episode was set in late 2013. I had always assumed the Omaha story was set in present day, but it's apparently only about three years after the events of Breaking Bad. I loved the Dirty Dozen homage with Gene making rhymes for each part of Jeff's "mission".
Correction: more research indicates that the episode is actually set in 2010. I’m not a college football fan and assumed the Brandon Weeden thumb reference was from when he was a pro in 2013, but he apparently injured it before a big college game three years earlier. So the episode seems to be set shortly after the ending of Breaking Bad.
Damn... and I thought it was me. It took me a bit to realize that Jeffy was the guy that recognized Gene as Saul in a previous episode.
There's gotta be more to the story. Any actor with a half a brain would have fought to stay on that show, even if it was a minor role.
There may also be a connection involving the call Saul tells Francesca she’s going to get on November 12th at 3pm. The Iowa state game they talk about was on 11/6/10.
But didn't Saul and Walter run months before the end of BB? Like, Walt comes back nearly a year later to rescue Jesse.
Oh wait, I'm wrong. https://breakingbad.fandom.com/wiki/Breaking_Bad_Timeline "Ozymandias" - March 13-14, 2010 (two days) "Granite State" - March 15 - September 4, 2010 (6 months) "Felina" - September 4-7, 2010 (three days) So if Nippy was in 2010, then it's close to Saul's birthday.
But it didn't snow in Omaha in November 2010! https://www.wunderground.com/history/monthly/us/ne/omaha/KOMA/date/2010-11
Once you go Slippin' Jimmy you can never go back. There's going to be something that gets him caught.
I saw one theory that says the Gene "flashforwards" are actually not after Breaking Bad but take place while Walt was in exile in New Hampshire.
Some of them maybe. This week's is too full of references to real stuff that happened in late 2010, though.
I was a little worried about how that would go, but they handled it well. I think keeping Cranston and Paul with their ski masks pulled up on their heads helped disguise the 13 years between the Breaking Bad episode and this one.
I may need to watch this episode again. So many threads leading to this one. The phone call. The episode title (Breaking Bad had an episode called "Better Call Saul"). The Walter/Jesse scenes. "Who is Lalo?" The visit from Mike. "He-Who-Shall-Not-Be-Named." The writing and plotting on this show is second to none.
As sad as I'll be once this season ends, I'm really looking forward to a complete series Blu-ray release in (hopefully) a few months. My only complaint about the Breaking Bad boxed set is that there isn't commentary for every episode. But apparently all five previous seasons of BCS on Blu-ray have commentary for all episodes and I assume the final season will be the same.
