Yeah, Nolan is pissed at WB for releasing his movie TENET on HBO Max simultaneously with the theatrical release. Hate to say it but that was the one Nolan movie that I didn't like. Not WB's fault that it flopped, IMHO.
It’s an interesting take on time travel, but definitely low ranking for me. I wouldn’t say I hate it though.
Maybe I'll give it another shot. I normally really enjoy Christopher Nolan movies. This trailer doesn't really get me excited for Oppenheimer, but I plan to see it based on Nolan's resume.
I dunno. In the 80s, apparently, the hottest fashion item was WWII replica bomber jackets with the insignia of the squadron that dropped the bomb...
Oh, and because of a screw-up, this will be in IMAX theaters longer than the latest Mission Impossible will be. Imagine that.
I think some of the stunt scenes were shot in it, but I could be wrong. Action movies, even if they’re not shot in IMAX, are still pretty cool on the giant screen.
Okay, this is the type of movie I've been looking for, it makes you think. It makes you think about physics, it makes you think about spy craft, it makes you think about the cold war, it makes you think about the military industrial complex and the warning Eisenhower gave, it makes you think about JFK and his efforts to make peace with the USSR and if you believe that Oswald didn't act alone, it makes you think about the reason you believe that, it makes you think about relationships, it makes you think about the New Mexico desert and what may or may not be going on there, it makes you think about the strikes, it makes you think of Ukraine, it makes you think about our current polarization in this country and abroad, it makes you think about WW2 and what was at stake, it makes you think about the Japanese population and asks questions over whether the bomb was necessary. It doesn't provide the answers, but these are the discussions we've been having ever since the bomb was dropped which is truly in line with the vision of Gene Roddenberry, even though this is not a Star Trek movie. At no time is it preachy though. It's basically what a biopic should do, just focus on one aspect of a person's life. There's enough background information and introspection to get an idea of what kind of person he was. It focus' on one aspect of American history that seems awfully timely, and I suspect that's intentional, that history rhymes with the times we live in now. I think that no matter what side of the political spectrum you fall in, you should be able to see it. This movie delivers on the cinematography we've come to expect from Nolan. In short, it's beautiful. Everything in this movie looks and feels real, including the trinity test. By the way, the trinity test is not where this movie ends and the marketing for this movie does not give anything away. Yes you can look up information about Oppenheimer, but if you all you know of him is that he knew Einstein and was responsible for the creation of the atomic bomb like I did, then I suggest you stay in the dark until after you've seen this movie. There's a moment where Matt Damon's character says, "did you learn anything?" and I believe that is directed at the audience and I'll explain why in spoilers. I can't really think of anything I didn't like other than maybe the run time, but I understand the reasoning. This is a summer of long movies after all. Now to spoilers. This movie will likely make comic book movie and it's got a lot of comic book characters in it, but don't expect an after credits scene. LOl. This movie has: Iron Man Yelona Belova The Scarecrow Hughie/Boimler Mr. Robot Kurt (Ant-Man) Hob Goblin Rita Vrataski Han Solo John Connor Lt. Gordon Malloy/Steve Smith Commissioner Gordon Edwin Jarvis And many more familiar faces. Verdict: It blew me away. Careful though, this movie contains the following: Yes, boobies.
This is the 11-mile long IMAX film print of Christopher Nolan’s ‘OPPENHEIMER’ It weighs about 600 lbs https://www.reddit.com/r/Damnthatsi...6/this_is_the_11mile_long_imax_film_print_of/
IMAX as a film format has been around since the 1970s. There are Digital IMAX theaters that use two 2K projectors, showing movies at a greatly reduced resolution compared to the 12K-18K equivalent of 70mm IMAX film theaters. Also: Kodak Specially Manufactured Black and White 70mm Film for Oppenheimer
11 miles... Forget length in time; now we gotta start measuring movie lengths in terms of miles or kilometers!
I could nitpick but it really was very good, as one expects from Christopher Nolan. He did seem to take a position against pure theory in science (in favour of empericism) which was interesting. I agree that it was thought-provoking can't help but respond to this. I think you're projecting a bit. Where's the link to Oswald? And aliens...really?
I saw "OPPENHEIMER" yesterday afternoon & thought it was great. "OPPENHEIMER" is a very interesting , informative & educational film. Is anybody here going to pull a "BARBENHEIMER" & see both "Barbie" & "OPPENHEIMER" in the same day as a double feature?
I think that should be a RR thread, but in short, the NM desert is where Roswell and the Los Alamos lab is located. Both are steeped in UFO lore. The discussion towards the end when they name Kennedy specifically made me think of the efforts he took towards non-proliferation. Some people think that's why he was killed because the military industrial complex basically runs the country as far as foreign policy is concerned.
