As has been explained to you multiple times, “arms” in this context means weapons that an individual can carry and operate. So no, not WMD, not crew-served things like heavy machine guns or artillery, etc.

In what context? There isn’t anything in the second amendment that even implies what you’re saying. It does, however, imply, other things - such as the US has a military, therefore, if citizens want to be armed, they should join the military. It doesn’t specify for personal use.

Yes, what I wrote was based on the fact you regularly assert that as your understanding. For reference the text reads:

A well regulated Militia being necessary to the security of a free State the right of the people to keep and bear Arms shall not be infringed.

In the context of the time it seems like the intent of at least some of the US founders was to allow state militias to be equally strong as any federal military to stand up to it.

Seems like you and those you call hypocrites both have the belief that arms doesn't mean the modern definition of such, but rather what the people of the team would recognise as arms.

They base their definition on level of functionality, you seem to base yours on form factor.

And I’m sure this distinction is something the Founding Fathers or hell, even ONE of their contemporaries wrote about so we know this is what they were intending and that it isn’t just some ex postofacto creation to justify the Right’s new position on guns.

Surely there is some legal precedent. Some case where a dude got in trouble for having a cannon but not a rifle that dates from before the National Firearms Act of 1934, right?

You definitely wouldn’t just be reciting some tired bumper sticker slogan without having done more than a cursory glance at the topic would you?

I’m no historian but I’m sure that clause has nothing to do with the fact that the Founding Fathers were wary of a standing Army (as evidenced by the limitation clause in Article I, Section 8) and so decided state controlled* militias were the proper substitute (Clause 15).

*state controlled but under Federal regulation per Clause 16.

    This is amazing

@Federal Farmer loves to complain that people here only respond with emotions and don't debate and don't use facts

However when he's actually confronted with logic and facts in a debate, he tells Anc he'll be ignoring him from now on

I mean fuck, if that's not an all time bitch move then I don't know what is

While I agree that it’s in our best interest to manufacture chips at home and I’m glad it’s going to create jobs here, I don’t think giving away corporate welfare is the win you think it is.

Look BJ, when it comes to Industrial Policy you basically have four options:

    1) State Owned Enterprise - The government creates a corporation (or takes one over) and builds the product itself.

    2) Subsidies - The government pays someone to build a factory here and/or helps cover operation costs.

    3) Tariffs - We charge for importing the product. Keep in mind we have trade agreements that severely limit our ability to do this.

    4) Buy America provisions - We require all those who want contracts with the Federal Government and any state and local agency that receives federal funds to source their product from the US. This is the favorite of high school libertarians because it is superficially the most hands off AND it also allows them to turn around decry the ‘wasteful spending’ when the government is forced to use the one company that builds a factory here solely to supply the government and can then charge whatever they want.

Since you have said we need to build chips here, which one do you prefer?

The "militia" being any male between what, 16 and 60 or thereabouts? Who were expected to have at least a musket, powder, and shot? Since yes, the founders were distrustful of standing armies (but not standing navies, it turns out) they wanted the whole of the people to be ready to be called up under the direction of at most a very small core of officers who were properly trained in the arts of war. Hence, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed. And the militia was not a state organization per se. No more than the militia is the same thing as the National Guard, which is an argument you hear. Local officials could "call up the militia" to deal with various contingencies without having to consult with state-level authorities.
