Seems to be shaping up as the conscensious on Reddit, even among the sane fans who haven't been bashing everything with Kurtzman's name attached to it.

At a minimum, I feel confident to say it's the most disappoint thing since Voyager, since I doubt anyone active in Trek was all that surprised by ENT being the dumpster fire it was.

Let’s see. Picard vs Voyager vs Discovery vs Enterprise.
I say Picard because they took what was a great character and shit all over him. They turned Seven into a homicidal maniac and made her a lesbian out of nowhere and she apparently learned nothing from Janeway and her time on Voyager. They replaced the actor who played Icheb over some petty woke nonsense and then killed him. The killed Maddox and replaced the actor for what reason I don’t know. They ruined the Borg even worse than Voyager did. Raffi, need I say more? They killed Data again. They had the dumbest copy and paste fleet with horrible space battles. Picard made a speech, but left a lot to be desired. They Killed off Q, which I’m fine with, but didn’t really explain it. Jurati’s only redeeming quality was her tits. Commodore Oh was a secret Romulan the whole time and nobody EmoRomulan sucked ass. Elnor was a ninja that was absolutely unnecessary to the plot. Rios was cool, but the actor was underused. Season two had a lot of filler. They brought back the time cop from Voyager and didn’t make him the same character. Guinan was alright, but that whole thing was convoluted as shit. Did I miss anything? Picard is worse than Discovery. Voyager is better than Enterprise only because they had more episodes. Enterprise was getting better and I think it would have been better than Voyager.

    I will probably regret this....but:

    1. How does the show "shit" on Picard?

    2. How is Seven a homicidal maniac in this series?

    3. What makes you think that Seven was not always bi/omnisexual?

    4. What makes you think that Seven learned nothing from Janeway or from her time on Voyager?

    5. Why do you care about them replacing the Icheb actor or killing him off? And how do you know the replacement was over "woke nonsense"?

    6. What are you talking about them bringing back the time cop from Voyager?

    7. If you think Picard is so bad, why watch?

Picard's biggest problem is that it was likely impossible to ever really live up to the expectations.

Kinda like Generations - the reason you don't shoot the death of Kirk is because you could never write a story for it that would live up to intense fan expectations.

If Picard hadn't been...PICARD! ... it would have gotten at least a somewhat better reception. Still has it's flaws but the disappointment wouldn't have been nearly as intense.

Oh, I dunno, the book "The Return" gave Kirk the cosmic heroic death he deserved (and looped it all back to TMP).
It's just the budget squeezing 90's studio suits couldn't do it justice.
    Now things are different.
Hopefully, season 3 gives Picard a sendoff like that.

My biggest issue with Picard S2 was the FBI raid on Guinan's bar that was both a rehash of ICE busting Rios; and going nowhere save as a means to transition to the Guinan-Q scene.
That could have easily been done without the raid, the FBI agent, and still have the tension build up with Q 'ignoring' Guinan's summon with something more relevant to the overall plot.

    I don't think that's fair.

First of all, there is the contrast in how they got treated. Rios was insulted by guards, assaulted (? - sorry, it's been a while and a lot of TV since I watched this, so I can't remember), and was going to be shipped off to a detention center and probably deported, all part of the system working as designede. Picard and Guinan were being held but there was a good chance even if the agent didn't have a change of heart that they would have eventually been let go if they had stonewalled. And it was clear that the agent had overstepped his authority in everything he had done. I think that makes a statement about the difference between ICE and the FBI.

How the characters handled similar situations also says something about them. That Rios needed an outside rescue while Picard could essentially talk his way out of things.

It showed that Picard and crew could not just transport around in the 21st century and do other stuff without getting noticed. It also gave Picard a platform to speechify and inspire.

All that said, would I have preferred a streamlined version where Picard was able to give his speech to Not!Fox Mulder in some other way or to some other person? Sure. As long as we are going to culturally contaminate, he might as well tell Renee the sorts of things he told Not!Fox.

I'd say that Picard being "Picard" bought the show a lot of goodwill that it didn't exactly earn. If they had made pretty much the exact same show with a strong actor in the lead role but with another character, I think some people, including myself, would be less enthused about it. I've given the show a lot of leeway because I want to see what my favorite captain is up to. If it featured Luke J. Dricarp, maybe not so much.

I hope the show in its last season works to recapture the optimism that the best of Star Trek features and does less to try to be reflective of the grim and gritty sci-fi of the last 20 years.

I've said this before, DS9, Nemesis, and the JJTrek flashbacks left the TNG-verse with a big mess to clean up.
Jumping right into the 90's optimism with a compromised Federation government, a decimated Starfleet, and a destroyed Romulus would have been kind of gross.

Only the Romulus part is the issue - what did DS9 and Nem do that couldn't be resolved? Lower Decks manages an optimistic view of Starfleet (most of the time) despite being post-Nem but prior to Hobus.

The premier episode of Picard season two was one of the best hours of Trek we'd gotten in a long, long time.

And then all that potential was flushed down the toilet to satisfy an unnecessary backstory on Picard's childhood and a dumbass B Plot that apparently exists just so they could have something for Brent Spiner to do.

Was it as bad as Voyager or Enterprise? Hell, no.

But it easily ranks as one of the bigger disappointments in Trek history.

Picard S2 is to Trek what Attack of the Clones was to Star Wars, with fewer memeable moments and Seven/Raffi being slightly more tolerable than Ani/Padme :bailey:

Gotta say, I'm happy to see the old gang get together.

But that shot of the Starfleet building collapsing pretty much says this season is going be about A BIG DAMN THING THAT THREATENS THE UNIVERSE, BUT MAINLY EARTH SO WE'LL REALLY CARE.
