    Just coming back to this...

"Drugs are regulated to protect YOU from YOURSELF. Guns are regulated out of fear of what you might do to others."

Isn't that pretty much a great argument to regulate firearms and deregulate (well, decriminalize-safe supply and all that kinda demands regulation) drugs.

Me smoking a spliff i the park isn't gonna hurt anybody

Me wandering around conspicuously with, let alone actually using a gun in that same park is going to at least interfere with others' sense of safety or create a nuisance.

    "Sense of safety. "

You mean "Be ruled by the whims of other people’s emotions. "

Nope. People feeeeel a lot of silly shit that isn't worthy of any serious attention.

By all means, feel free not to take my emotional state into account as you go about your business, and I will do the same with everyone else. That's how free association works in the really real world.

oh fuck off.. you've used variations of "acting in a threatening manner" a hundred times as cause to take action against someone.

why should the rest of us be at risk from your paranoid fears?

seriously.. if your lifestyle is such that you think you need a gun in a playground, you probably shouldn't have one.

Back for what, some dishonest false equivalence? Fine, I promise to never leave a loaded gun in the street. This was not the clever "gotcha" moment you thought it was.

Because if I had any valid experiences I would act exactly as you prescribe, right? Nobody could ever react differently or favor a remedy you wouldn't employ yourself? Go fuck yourself.

no sweet cheeks, if you'd had any "really real world" experience with the stuff you spout off about, you'd not demand others act like you.

you've really got a thing for projection, don't you? s'okay... most petulant little narcissists do.

It's not a gotcha, it's drawing the first of progressively narrower lines. So you do believe in something resembling contributory negligence as a legal standard then? That there's SOME blame to be had for the person who leaves the loaded gun on the street, not just the person who picks it up and uses it? Do you think it should be a crime to leave a loaded gun on the street, open the person who does so to a negligence claim, both, or neither?

this just kind of reminded me of the discussion with Alderp, both when it gets to the section about "road railers" and why they just aren't capable of doing what they were hoped to and the subject tech ('pod trains"), which apparently was created by people who knew nothing about actual trains (everything from non compatible with extant rolling stock, not durable enough, underpowered...)

Not sure if this should go here, or in the fuck Catholics thread. Catholic organization decides to hold an active shooter drill, but doesn't tell anybody that they're going to be doing this.

That's a bit unfair. Back then, most gun owners were in favor of stronger gun control laws. It's only been a recent thing in which the NRA has gotten in bed with gun manufacturers and ... there was a movie probably 15, 20 years ago. The opening narration was something about there X amount of people on the planet and X amount of guns on the planet and how do we get guns into the hands of the other X amount of people. THAT's what the problem is. not guns themselves. Just idiots who want everyone on the planet to have a gun and shoot at anything that makes you antsy and then justify it as standing your fucking ground.

Was waiting for the "weapons of war" lie. They did not disappoint.

One could counter that adorable bit of boilerplate propaganda with examples of lives saved by the presence of firearms, but there is no point in engaging the "all guns always bad" mentality.
