The so-called "trial tax"/trial penalty is the notion that a defendant might get a harsher sentence at trial than what they are offered in a plea bargain. I think that represents an unfair way of looking at things, because a jury or judge can just as easily impose a lighter sentence than what prosecutors might offer. It's just a fact of life that trial is a risk, and it sucks that sometimes those risks don't pay off, but that's life.

I tend to be pro-felony murder rule. If people think it should be revoked in their jurisdictions because of situations like this, the solution is obvious: get their legislatures to abolish or limit it.

The instructor was training officers how to use a baton, and decided to show how fast someone could pull their gun out. The victim was a 25-year-old, and her last job was working at FedEx.

Skip to the 16 second mark and you’ll see Congressman Andy Biggs do the same.

    So that’s at least two.

    https://jezebel.com/republicans-call-for-abolishing-defunding-the-fbi-now-1849388012

This article quotes several others calling for the FBI to be defunded, for FBI agents to be arrested or similar.

    So does this:
    https://www.businessinsider.com/gop-far-right-wants-fbi-destroyed-and-defunded-2022-8

See more than one Republican yet? If not, maybe it's time for an eye exam.

I have an eye test tomorrow, as it happens.

I'm going to demand that, unless my new prescription glasses enable me to see FF's dignity, they refund me in full or offer me the James Webb telescope as an alternative.

I've been saying for years before Trump was president that we should get rid of the alphabet agencies so I'm fine with it. Glad to see Republicans finally on board, but I'm sure this won't last long.

Update: The police have released nothing about the person who caused the lockdown, but are more than happy to release details of the parents they arrested.

It counts as self defense if you're protecting your kids, right? Like hypothetically, if you had to execute some filthy pigs feral hogs that were preventing your kids from escaping a dangerous situation? :chris:

In six months, he'll have landed a new job as the police chief in some podunk town where they view assisting in the murder of Black people as an asset, not a failing.
