What, your ability to read and thus know it's Mar-a-Lago?

Can you address what I said about the FBI? Calling out spelling errors is not a valid argument.

Desantis cited two examples, one which hasn't reached Warren's desk ever - the other is not as of now even illegal under Florida law. For Desantis to have a good faith cause of action, at a minimum, he'd have to show an ACTUAL failure to act, not comments which could as easily be political grandstanding or simply an exercise of his free speech.

Objectively, EVEN IF Desantis has the constitutional power to remove him for failure to preform his duties - he hasn't done so. Therefore RD is abusing the power of his office to punish speech (same as they are trying to do with college profs in FL) which any freedom loving American should be outraged by.

But a lott of folks are perfectly fine with fascist style behavior as long as it's in support of ends the approve of.

Not just fascist behavior, it's laced with anti-semitism.

DeSantis further targeted Warren as being a "Soros-backed state attorney," a reference to the Hungarian-born Jewish billionaire George Soros, who is a "lightning rod for conservative and right-wing groups who object to his funding of liberal causes," in the words of the Anti-Defamation League (ADL).

Why is Soros a talking point in all of this?
While progressive Jewish outlet Forward notes that "Soros is connected to Warren through his donations to the Florida Democratic Party, which the party, in turn, disperses to its candidates, possibly including Warren," the idea that a cabal of ultra-rich Jewish internationalists are secretly working to subvert Western civilization has long been an antisemitic trope. And no single person is more strongly associated with that trope than Soros.

Some new information has come through my contacts in the Tampa Bay area: one of the things that pissed off DeSantis and his merry band of fascists was that Warren refused to prosecute people who were behind in paying court fees, suspended licenses and overdue insurance. He justified it by arguing that such prosecutions effectively criminalized being poor. My contact told me of a Latino acquaintance who got behind on his insurance and was about to have his driver's license suspended. The guy was pulled over literally on his way to pay up his insurance bill. The cops let him go, leading my contact to wonder WTF? Now the coin has dropped: the cops knew they'd be wasting their time writing up the violation. It also shows that the Sheriff and cops are pissed off at being denied their pastime of pushing around poor people, especially poor people of color. :brood:

Businesses should be bothered by such behavior if you think about it. A person who lives around the poverty line, or even into the middle class, spends money based on a finite limit. If you blast them for 150 dollars for a ticket that pulls directly from the money they would have had to spend on some commercial product. When you compile that for other fines that come from that, as florida charges you 100 dollars to unsuspend your license if it gets suspended, and you multiply that by lots of poor people who run into these problems, you are actually taking customers away from local businesses. You are talking about what is 250 dollars with the reinstatement fee and the ticket. That money would have been spent on local businesses and not saved when you are talking about poor and some middle class people. You are doing this to a certain number of poor people every day. All of those tickets and fees are really coming from commercial spending in many neighborhoods or for types of people.

If you are going to supplement taxes through tickets like that you need to do it to the rich or else it depresses commerce. In floriduh the cops could easily profile their way to some profit. It is not like there is a shortage of luxury vehicles to target.

Also, he wouldn't prosecute people arrested on bikes who didn't resist arrest. Why? Because 80% of police interactions with bike riders were black people. And he rightfully smelled malicious prosecution. It was one of thee things Desantis himself pointed out as causing him to act.

I mean, America was never better than when Obama was about to leave, so we already knew that was the dog whistle in 2016.

I also seem to recall us all demanding "where are these good old days you want us to go back to? :chris:" and the MAGA CHUDs refusing to answer.

They don't deserve the "in fairness," but...

In fairness, one could wish for a return to the 50s minus the racism and sexism if one thinks those things were bugs and not features. (I initially didn't include homophobia, but I suppose the number of MAGA folks who would not be cool with homophobia making a comeback is only barely nonzero. Whereas I think at least on a surface level most MAGA folks know capital R-racism and capital S-sexism are bad things but classify a lot of things this side of a KKK cross-burning as not racism and this side of denying women the right to vote as not sexism).

Yeah, but all those 50's sitcoms they based their little fantasy world on are in the suburbs, and the suburbs were redlined into being, so....

It could only be worse if Father from "Father Knows Best" smoked a pipe made out of a Native American skull.
I bet they pitched it in the writer's room though.
