Since events have unfolded considerably beyond the delays on the JWST, I've taken the liberty of renaming the thread. If anyone objects, let me know and I'll change it back. James Webb Telescope Launch Delayed Until 2019 -> James Webb Space Telescope
I wonder if they're going to have any comparison images with other telescopes like the Chilean array and Hubble?
Here’s one with Hubble and JWST. https://twitter.com/jpmajor/status/1546681975330725889?s=21&t=0i-lqTE1WM9UMWNgTsftuQ
I'm always fascinated by new pieces of scientific kit. It seems to me that often they raise more questions than they answer and the effort to answer the questions usually ends up raising more questions. I wonder if there are any articles talking about the questions that scientists were hoping Hubble would answer and ones that it raised, along with questions that JWST is supposed to answer and speculating on new issues it might raise?
I haven't read anything specific but I know the JWT can look father back in time than Hubble or anything else could. Some of the unsolved problems of physics relate to how gravity behaved in the early universe with dark energy and cosmic inflation also in the mix. I'm thinking we might get some clues as to some of those things.
