Don't you have an abusive trumper to be blowing in the back of a brokedick jeep? Please don't let me interrupt you and your lover from getting it on. UA seems to be pretty grumpy when he doesn't have his cock gobbler firmly planted on his dick and we get lovely moments of his absence while you gargle his nuts so get back to taking some cum for the team.

Oh, and great plan for you two to back each other up. I am sure that is going to help @Bailey cure me of my desire to mock your sexual catastrophe. You guys got me pegged, but not in the good sexual way.

Wokeism could never make the left just as bad as the Trumpists camp. That's fascism and treason.

But it is driving people away from calling themselves liberal, as the percentage of self-declared liberals is actually declining according to polling for Morning Consult. Conservatism is staying the same, moderates numbers are growing. Liberals dropped from 34% to 27% in the last 5 years. https://morningconsult.com/2022/08/...iberal-but-not-necessarily-more-conservative/

There was also a very damning piece on the Intercept about how progressive action groups were dealing with internal rebellions that made them almost completely ineffectual in responding to the Roe v Wade crisis. The foremost abortion research group that provides data to groups like Planned Parenthood was fighting a bitter war over unionization during the announcement of the Supreme Court overtuning Roe. Virtually every progressive action group from the ACLU to Planned Parenthood was facing internal division over calls to remove hierarchy at that exact time.

There should be a little forgiveness there as there was almost nothing anyone could do for that crisis while it was occurring. The republicans had a huge stroke of luck in how many justices Trump could appoint, and they were all going to be confirmed despite lying about their intentions. The areas where the defense had to be were things like RBG retiring when Obama was able to present a justice, and having Garland pushed through despite the time. Once those two things happened it was over.

I actually put much more blame on RBG's ego for what happened than abortion rights people failing recently. The reality is the abortion rights people should have been trying to legislate for decades instead of relying on Roe. That is not something you can put on the recent head unless they were there avoiding it in the past.

Also, as for the fight against different type of discrimination, it depends on what your position is regarding prejudice on how you fight. As a person born and often presenting as a white male I really have to do the SJW thing IMO whenever I see racism because when it is tolerated it festers. Someone has to be the big asshole pointing it out. I recognize that moderate and racist white people hate me for the conflict I cause by doing so because the moderates want things conflict free even if that means burying the victim of abuse to satisfy the abuser because that is the path of least resistance. I recognize black people are probably less feisty than I am regarding it. The reverse seems to be true regarding trans things. I am pretty forgiving to allies who make mistakes, and even obviously prejudiced people who I can change the minds of. There are some non-trans SJWs out there that are fucking god awful assholes to the right. Some of them take to flaming forgiving trans people.

Really, we cannot blame the activist pro abortion and pro women people for going through all of that. It is hard to fight these battles without stepping all over each other. I do not want to harass TERFs even though many end up being anti-trans. That is because I see the wrongs of sexism and they need hard fighters. By choosing to hammer a TERF I just cause more hurt to them, so I chose to defend myself and forgive them their anger because they need it to attack. If I have to I will strike down a conservative woman using feminism to beat up on trans people but I have to be precise. I have to know how to redirect the attack towards the conservatives and call that person out for weakening the effort. That does not automatically happen when I evicerate some TERF online.

It is important to keep your eye on the goal as a troll because you can correct or misdirect attacks. Trolling is not as basic as just making people mad and reacting. You can direct things through trolling (AKA baiting) people to the place you want them. The right is using feminists against some of their biggest allies by trolling them into the conservative hate of trans people and using their feminism to fuel that hate. You cannot punch a woman in the face for being a karen as a trans woman without looking like a man punching a woman in the face. You have to point out that the MTG female empowerment leads back to trump and bill orielly type of sexism. If you cannot make that reversal they win because they are already undermining the feminist movement with sexist conservative values.

These examples apply to the racism and other prejudices also. people like tucker carlson and the fox news producers are masters of trolling. They are not making mistakes when they get people to attack the FBI. They did that on purpose. That was trolling because they want to scare the FBI away from investigating their criminal activities by threatening their lives.

The August jobs numbers are out:

The economy added 315,000 new jobs (after adding about a half million in July).

Unemployment is up 2/10ths of a point, but the labor force participation is up 3/10ths of a point, as more people decide to go back to work.

Any bets on the Fox News chyron text, assuming they don't ignore the report entirely? I'm guessing "Unemployment soars as new job growth plummets."

The OG wing nut conspiracy website, World Net Daily is apparently being flagged by Google as spewing malware. Wonder if it’s because they’re running sleazy ads or if they’re hosting the stuff for Putin? I’m sure we will soon be hearing cries of “Censorship!” and “Help! Help! I’m being repressed!”

Behold the overwhelming power of right wing propaganda unmolested by legacy media.

"Wokeism" is just BARELY a thing and has no significant effect on literally anything but somehow it's imagined to be this incredibly oppressive monster that's coming for your pronouns and shit.

Data is data. I don't lie about it. The percentage of self-professed liberals is declining among voters, which is the most important demographic for politics, no? Fortunately the percentage of people opposed to the far right is increasing. Which should answer the question if this is right wing propaganda, or just the far left being clueless again.

Hell, I was told I was a racist because I don't like gangsta rap, that no person could possibly not like rap music unless it was due to racism. Geez, I wonder if that's true. LOL. That guy's wife is a Gender Studies major - and while I don't reflexively say that is silly, I certainly have some thoughts on her exhortation to her friends that no one should ever read a book by a white male author again. She got thousands of likes for that comment.

Living near a large urban East Coast area I know a LOT of people that describe themselves as woke. Same crowd that say All Cops Are Bad - and most of them think Biden needs to go so their agenda can be enacted.

Where I get attacked as being reactionary if I simply say that the Founding Fathers did some good things. What about you, Nova, you think maybe a couple of the ideas they had were OK? Or that they were important people. One person I've known told me there was no possible way I could convince her that they weren't completely evil. She, of course, is Woke, and describes herself as such.

Maybe it's different where you live. But as I recall, you don't live in a place where very many social trends come from, or is very highly populated, correct?

 Holy fuck! Every ‘liberal’ against wokeism or Political Correctness or Snowflakes/Safe-Spaces or whatever the boogie-man phrase of the day is really does come down to feeling embarrassed at a party.

I gotta go find that tweet.

Thomas Paine was a founding father, and he was anti-slavery, and pro making nice with the natives.
And believed in a welfare state, and for what we now call social security.
So, tell your friend he was the good one.

Indeed, and yet the preponderance of them are ready to burst with their opinions about the evils of wokeism that they have never witnessed in action in the real world.

Which is what I mean. ARE there scattered loony-left folks who have "woke" metaphorically tattooed on their forehead and say a lot of dumb shit?

Abso-goddamn-lutely. Do they have any actual power and/or influence on politics. Nah, they are something to be worried about as much as the dangerous communists we've been warned about for at least 90 years.

I'm not saying they don't exist, I'm saying the don't exist as an actual political force that has any real opportunity to move the overton window - even on issues about which they are generally correct (like systemic racism which is the original "woke" conversation back when the word had meaning).

I think it's the unthinking dogma that is full of counterfactual bullshit that really is the problem.

I mean, point and laugh at the morons wrong. Federal Farmer I refuse to think about this wrong.

Dogma always fails, always, and if you think there aren't any exceptions, you might want to do some navel gazing.

Remember when multiple pulitzer prize winning historians reached out to the 1619 committee and told them that what they were doing was super important and they didn't want to mitigate that in any way but a couple of their historical assumptions were wrong and they might want to consider checking some of the original source material on it?

They got attacked online. And of course the color of their skin came up. Because while there wasn't a single historian on the 1619 committee, it was all journalists, none of the men and women who were among the most renowned historians in the last 50 years had sufficient melanin in their skin to make that comment.

Yes, woke people's shit stinks too. They should probably wipe their ass once in a while.

Ah, but there's the distinction between ACTUAL woke - a good thing from the jump that many people including myself would cop to - and the cartoon characature of woke of the sort you described.

For example: do I believe that systemic racism of the sort postulated by CRT is a very real and ongoing plague upon our society's effort bring about equity (the original "woke" concept)? fuck yeah I do. Do I know the difference in pursuing equity as opposed to equality? Yup. That's woke too. Do I think that it's very much a good thing for creatives to increase the representation of previously (and sometimes continuously) oppressed minorities in works of art? Hell yes I do.

If you ask me if I'm "woke" in that context I'd not hesitate to say yes.

    BUT

When the most recent artist drawing "Legion of Superheroes" race-flipped one of the core three Founder characters I bitched about it. Not because I'm racist but because it was a stupid choice for more than one reason. I also have almost no tolerance for rap/hip-hop music (with a few exceptions) but if my taste in music is driven by racism then why do I love Motown and most of disco and all sorts of soul music. Because it's not, in neither your case nor mine, regardless of what some doopy pretend-woke knucklehead claims. Literally no one who agrees on a survey that they see themselves as "woke" is thinking of **THAT** lunacy when they said yes.

there's a considerable space between actually being woke and the cartoonish notion of woke that is created when folks magnify the excesses of fringy loons saying stupid goddamn things like "I identify as a tree" and expect to be taken seriously.

Nova, once again, I think this is very much a limitation of your environment. Yes, absolutely there are places where this agenda is being promoted at the state and local level.

As I started out saying, it isn't anywhere near as significant problem as fascist MAGA. That's a potentially terminal cancer.

But there is a very illiberal side of the far left that's been more and more emergent, and if left to grow it could indeed be a serious problem someday.

No true Scotsman, eh? :) I don't define what people are in that manner - if they tell me they are X and seem to mean it, I take them at their word. And regardless, these 'fake' woke people are very prevalent, so they are going to impact the term. That was my point about it harming voters identification with the term liberal. It's not listening to conservative nonsense (CRT, CRT!) it's having to interact with the people who claim the term for themselves. Just as I pointed out in that article where attacks on hierarchy in the most liberal bastions dedicated to fighting for abortion rights happened right when Roe was overturned and crippled their response to it. Who says so? The people running these non-profits.

I've seen equity at work, I'm not particularly interested in it. Equal rights for all is necessary and easy to understand the scope and breadth of what that means and how to achieve it, and clearly we have work yet to go there.

Equity is entirely subjective and is rife with misuse. And like the term 'microaggression' that also comes from that philosophy, is a race to the bottom on perceived victimhood.

But hell, what do I know. I still think that not all men are rapists. And that saying such a thing isn't innately worth mockery.

    Silly me.

It's "All Cops Are Bastards", and the phrase is coming close to being in usage for a century.

The toxification of "woke" reminds me a lot of how "politically correct" was likewise poisoned throughout the 90s. The origin of that, as was explained to me at the time, was to avoid confusing doing the right thing with the right wing thing... (admittedly, the activist left can be pretty pedantic).

I prefer "conscious" anyways, because you'd have to be in a coma not to recognize some of the ongoing injustices.

Lingual drift - people in my area are stating All Cops Are Bad now and have been for a decade. Of course, they also get confused over the difference between Defund the Police and Abolish the Police, so...

I'm sure that's easier than admitting that some people have tortured woke beyond meaning. If you are active on Twitter, Reddit, Imgur, or any other number of platforms you see it daily, even if you aren't seeing it in the people you know around you.

I absolutely agree that there are ongoing injustices that need to be addressed. Simplistic answers aren't going to get us there though.

More than one thing not only can be true, it is almost always true. Systemic racism is a strong signal in the history of the US, but it's just one of many.

that's okay, people have been mishearing the lyrics to "blinded by the light" for decades and getting it wrong/making up their own versions as well. I suppose it needs sanitizing for the suburban shirt sleeves too...

Not so sure about the hair split between torturing the meaning (actually, tone) and toxifying the meaning-lingual drift, perhaps? as it results in the same dismissiveness of the associated ideals (that often become relatively mainstream themselves).

So ... They are reducing the toll for the electronic users.
I live in an area in which the main north/south highway is a toll road and believe me, the majority (over 90%) of users are daily commuters. Florida will be attempting to balance this out by increasing the cost for 10% of travelers so high that those 10% will go another way.

Illinois tried this pre-covid. Cash payers paid twice the toll as the electronic users. As I didn't want to be tracked, I didn't get one until I found an apartment and job that are each just off the tollway.

How many cases were solved on Law&Order when the detectives debunked a suspect's alibi by using their E-Z Pass records (or whatever they call it in NY) to establish a timeline that couldn't be reconciled with the alibi? :chris:

Never watched law and order but I did hear about a real life case of a man accused of murder and the only thing that saved him was a film crew at an mba game.
