She didn't exactly do much to rectify the fact that she was the heir to a large fortune built upon the enslavement of much of the globe. When the various African states that had been subject to British rule decided that they wanted to be independent in the 50s and 60s, she didn't speak out on their behalf. Sure, she wasn't on the throne (or even alive) when those nations were subjugated, but one would think that she'd support their right to self-governance if she was opposed to the idea of a British Empire.

Ok. I’m going to separate this into two separate issues.

1) yea, the Uber wealthy whose … ancestral family line have made money off the colonization and enslavement of millions of others and not using any of that wealth to rectify the past are horrible. Then again, if any of us had been born into that, would we behave any different? I like to think I would, but in reality, probably not.

2) Elizabeth’s father, George the VI (or was it her grand father, Edward the VIII?) made a decision that, in the end, allowed the royal family to literally keep their heads and that was to back out of politics and not be involved with parliament at all. So, … the first half of her reign she (probably) just continued that. Later, maybe she felt she was too old to change?

Either way, I am not defending her or the monarchy itself. Just saying it’s a bit unfair to hang all that on someone who just happened to be born in her shoes.

Okay, so maybe she's not responsible for the genocide that led to her family's wealth, but when her immediate family was credibly accused of doing horrific things, she opted to cut a check to one of his victims, rather than saying he needed to go to jail.
