    Definitely a monorail/bullet train.

Even if they've removed the lifespan limit, Sam never leapt into the future in the original and I doubt they'll go with that angle here either.

    One tiny gripe.
Aw, he just leaps with a flicker now? *kicks up a sand cloud* :(
I liked the classic slow-mo glowey "bvvveeeewwww!!!" thing.

Yeah, all these shows fuck with perfection. Transformers never used the full TSCHE-CHU-CHU-CHU-TSCHE noise after the G1 cartoons. Transformers Prime came the closest but still sped it up.

Doctor Who at least kept the TARDIS sound in full glory when they brought it back in 2005 - we even got some of the weird warbles in later series.

I enjoyed it. It had a few stumbles, but that's forgivable for a pilot, especially a rushed one as this one replaced the original pilot (set during the Loma Prieta earthquake), I think due to time constraints, so they had to spiffy this one up and get it up to speed in less time than originally planned. That said, I like the characters, Ben seems like a genuinely good person who wants to do the right thing every time, very much in the same vein as Sam. I don't really feel much chemistry between him and Addison that represents a love across space and time, but maybe that's just me. I'm glad we got to see the actual Project QL facility, and Ziggy. I LOVE that Ernie Hudson's in it, and is apparently the grandfather/father like figure for his team.

As for the episode itself, it's pretty standard fare in terms of plot , but it's serviceable in getting us introduced to the characters. Nothing brand new and creative, but it gets the job done to get the show off the ground. Let's hope it gets better from here, and I'm curious to watch the next episode.

quickly looking at the ones that are currently in service... it's not any Shinkensen or TGV. Almost looks like a eurostar with a few artistic liberties/interpretations taken

Sooooo… Not horrible. Same basic premise, but not the same without Bakula and Stockwell. Might as well be NCIS, CSI or something like that. Don’t hate it,but don’t love it. Ernie Hudson is always a treat. Would rather watch the original show. Oh boy!

I tried it out, I found the lead absolutely leaden with virtually no expressions. I find myself looking at my phone every time he came on.

A shame, the premise seems fine, love Ernie Hudson, the female lead seems like she can act.

I also didn't care for the idea that he would do this without giving her any heads up whatsoever. That seems pretty contrived.

I might take a look at it later on, but for now not worth my time.

That's what it does for me, too. It reminds me of NCIS, and all it really wants to do is make me watch the classic show. It has only been a few episodes, and it's still enjoyable enough, but they really need to step it up or something. A quick music sting from that era, and a background shot that only gives the impression of the time that he's in just doesn't feel believable or immersive.

It reminds of those song covers from popular classics that take out all of the emotion and put in poppy, light sounds instead. It can still be good, but it would have been better just to write a new song.

Doesn't that fly in the face of how Sam described it as like a string in an infinite loop? In other words, it's not tech or a safety factor, but laws of physics.

But then he leaped along ancestor DNA, so the definition of "lifetime" got some goalpost moving.

And after the lightning strike mixed him up with Al, he was swiss-cheesed into being able to leap as far as Al's longer timeline too.

It's been getting interesting now that they've got Janis chewing a bit of scenery and creating the MacGuffin plot. It's still QL in that it isn't supposed to be hard sci fi. Also there's a link to original series at the end that's going to move the plot forward. (I think I read they've got next season, but probably not a third-and this episode's C story felt like added shots)

Just watched "the trans episode"... a couple of one minute monologues were inevitable, and they weren't shy with the emotional moments. Mostly more heartwarming than preachy. Good, as the audience as a whole still needs this served soft.

That the story exists in a timeframe and environment where the outcome is plausible helps... but serves as a reminder that barely a decade ago, most of us were still struggling with basic acceptance, let alone accompliceship. (there's a nice little demonstration of that dynamic as well). Interesting to note that those characters from 2012 would be in their late 20s today, and a major part of the show's target demographic.
