No it's not the next Harry Potter Book. It's a congressman laughing it up with his bank buddies on C-SPAN. Take a look. Or don't since you guys hate YouTube videos so much.

Jefferson didn't trust banks, Jackson didn't trust banks and I don't trust banks. Never have, never will. Here's reason #3,964,952.272,691 as to why. We've known this for some time, but I'm glad it was caught on camera for a change

FF sure has an angry on today.
Is he gonna sleep it off, or downward spiral into the "Se7en" killer?

Do you have anything to say about the video I posted or the topic of the revolving door between congress and Wall St. and or financial institutions?

You posted the video. What was your point? That some nebulous entity called “banks” are evil.

Post # 6 has nothing to do with the thread topic. Try again.

As a reminder, the thread topic is about congressmen and women that end up going into the financial sector after serving in congress. The video in particular is about a congressman joking it up with his bank executive buddies. These are the people that oversee the banks. Do you find this type of corruption repulsive or do you not have a problem with this type of behavior?

If you didn't watch the video then you should say so. That way I don't have to play this guessing game with you.

I've answered all of those questions. I've especially answered my age several times. It's not my fault that you don't believe me. What does any of this have to do with the thread topic?

What does this post have to do with a congressman who sits on the House Financial Services Committee joking with bank executives and talking about nepotism in a positive way?

Banks are self-interested. What we need are better regulations. You can't remove banks from the economy, in theory we can remove overt bribery from Congress.

But between SuperPACs and the revolving door, it's difficult.

SCOTUS opened up the door to virtually unlimited bribery via the SuperPAcs, and every single major bank reformer in Congress is a liberal. Warren, Sanders, Porter are among the most active there.

When did they do this? Citizens United vs Clinton. Hillary Clinton.

Voting Libertarian or Republican just allows more corruption, as they are uniformly opposed to regulation. The only thing that can stop Wall Street and Big Bank manipulation of the economy is the federal government.

What current safeguards are in place come from the Dodd-Frank act. That's Chris Dodd, and Barney Frank. Guess which party they belonged to?

In the House it passed 232-202. Every single Republican voted against it. The Dems voted 232 for, 25 against.

In the Senate it passed 60-39. 1 democrat voted against, 3 republicans voted for. So it was 55 Dems, 2 Ind (both who caucused with the Dems), and 3 GOP to get past the filibuster.

Then of course when the GOP held both houses they stripped it of many of it's provisions. Can't have effective regulation. A few Dems signed on, 12 in the Senate (vs 37 that voted against the repeal). All the GOP voted for doing so, as it had been a major policy point of theirs for a decade.

    But sure. Both sides.

Yeah, it's not awesome. I remember when the head of the Canadian IRS retired and immediately accepted a job at one of the big national accounting forms that lobbied his department regularly. Scuzzy as hell.

What do you suggest be done to stop that sort of thing, and at what cost?

Isn't his go to move running off crying for about a week or so and then coming back pretending to be a fighter against the echo chamber because we were all enjoying some time without Joe Rogan videos being posted as discussion Topics? I am really pretty sure Se7en with Federal Fuckup as the villain ends with him accidentally injecting himself on the sloth killing and ODing only to be found the next month dead in a pile of his own vomit in a room full of car air fresheners and no one wondering why when they ID him as the local drunk and village idiot.

Yep. Hamilton's the one who convinced some of the other framers that there needed to be an ownership class overseeing everything, and that was going to happen through the banking system. He didn't trust common people to know how to govern themselves. The system was designed from the start to funnel money upwards, as Hamilton was a staunch proponent of Adam Smith's theories, and that continues to this day. Our congress doesn't actually work for most of us. A sizable portion of the US voting public has no real representation, most of them among the poor. For all of his faults, Jefferson understood this, and where that kind of thinking would lead. He was sadly outvoted.
