You would (although seriously dude, the term "state's rights" is forever associable with slavery. you may wanna find a new buzz word because nobody new is buying the euphemism anymore).

And actually, you do need some basic standards. Problem is, that Texas company (much like one from Alberta here) is propaganda in the way you claim the 1619 project is... except their slant is (again) things like slavery wasn't so bad, and the trail of tears was for the good of the Native peoples.

If I had to have my hypothetical children indoctrinated to think genocide and slavery were evil or benign, guess which I'd go with? How about you? Actually, the "states rights" thing pretty much answers that. NM.

From what I understand discussing it with 2 generations of licensed educators in america (I am not one) as the US population became more mobile over the large culturally different landscape of the country students did not get the same education from place to place. Standardized testing was made as a way to evaluate where the student was at for universities and as a goal for districts. Technology was not there to make it standardized.

We are hitting the first time there could be real standards in education, and it would be good in a country as vast as the US to be sure students are being presented the same lessons at the same time so that they do not have to sit through the same thing, or so that they don't miss something because they moved districts. There should be a range of basic standardized goals for students to have proficiency in based on their age.

The problem in the US is the religious right has held onto indoctrinating children into christianity and white nationalist history by controlling school boards. We see them asserting this power now and they oppose a federal standard because they have restricted education to their children to breed more religious people because stupid people fall for christianity much easier than smart ones. That also applies to fascism, compliance with social norms, and being easily controlled.

Things like empathy, compassion, and caring for others are things that come from a wider world view and understanding of other people. It is pretty obvious education and worldly experience leads to a better person. What I will call evil people, want to exploit others and the dumbasses are easily angered and spiteful towards those that they feel are smarter than they are. This is why common core is important in evolving our next generations to a higher standard despite the wishes of the stupid and evil people. I think a good word for those people are trumpanzees, or Federal Farmers.

Nice straw man. Of course there should be some standardization. IIRC, no child left behind was a national program that didn’t work out so well.

Yeah, because republicans threw a tantrum over it and the dems let them shred it because the dems never gave a fuck about it to begin with. Hunter Biden and the Trump kids still get to do hookers and blow as CEOs because their daddy's are important despite their clear failings as human beings.

You, uh, do realise that the problem with some US states standards being used to teach others is a result of the free market right?

    That's not an answer.

You asserted that states rights were the solution to the problem, genuinely curious exactly what states rights you feel aren't being allowed/are being violated by them letting schools source textbooks from the free market.

Since it's hard to study South American dictatorships without learning how many of them came to power with help from the United States, I imagine that's not the only thing DeSantis will end up making them change about that course.

An honest person would just ask "Do you agree with this?" But confining yourself to reality might undermine your ability to spew bumper stickers.

Here’s the thing, you never believe anything I say if it doesn’t conform to the person you’ve created in your head that you think is me. If I were to say that I don’t agree with this, you’d just mark my post with a fantasy rep. You’ll get my opinion on things when I desire to give my opinion and not because you want to call me out. My silence is not an endorsement either.
