So one thing that might actually mean the Tories weren't completely insane. Just very, very wrong. If there is a question of the disruption of globalization, and it appears the US is going more isolationist for the 2nd consecutive administration, then the economy of many EU contries may be facing disruption for at least the short term. That combined with demographic issues in the heart of the EU, Germany and France, mean their consumption is likely going to fall and thus face fewer needs for imports.

So the UK pivots away from a diminished market and tries to make new trade pacts.

Problem is, the Brits already had a great setup with the EU getting quite a few perks other members were not getting.

And they have the same demographic problem everyone else does, their economy is going to shrink with Brexit, so... no one seems interested in making new trades with them on good terms for the Brits.

The US has just stonewalled them. We've pivoted to Mexico and Asia. Australia did make a deal with them, but it's actually pretty advantageous to Australia, and one of the single biggest proponents of Brexit, the UK's farmers, are already complaining about the influx of Australian agricultural goods. New Zealand if anything is in a better position than Australia there. NZ is poised to become a major cost-effective exporter of dairy products.

They've tried with India, who also seems to not be particularly interested. They already had a deal with Canada so that's not going to change anything, it's already included in their economy.

All that, and they haven't seen any of the promised outcomes of Brexit internally.

Braverman's the descendent of refugees, yet she refused to back down on her rhetoric about "invasions" of migrants even when a Holocaust survivor pointed out she's using the exact same terminology that was used to oppress the Jews.

But if you're a Tory these days, you've had an empathy bypass or you were born sociopathic. You can't look at their record and think you're joining the good guys otherwise. Same with the GOP/GOP-aligned "independent voters".

Apparently both Johnson and Truss are plotting a comeback. And Truss has blamed "the left wing economic establishment" for her fiasco.

    You couldn't write this shit.

If anything, Sunak would maneuver the UK to be in India's pocket.

I'm pulling it out of my ass, of course, but Indian payback against GB would be quite a curry I'm sure.

I did suggest to the Brit thread folks on TBBS that, as a lot of the heavy lifting in ketchup is the sugar and vinegar, turnip ketchup might NOT be awful. If I can purchase one (or a Swede - rutabaga to you Yanks) then I'll give it a try.

Probably don’t have the number of Filipino grocery stores we do but this is actually really good even without a tomato shortage.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Banana_ketchup

It’s basically a thinner spicier ketchup.

In 2019 Jacob Rees-Mogg told Parliament Boris Johnson’s Brexit deal was

“the tournedos rossini of a deal - it is a deal that one can eat with joy & pleasure & it is the finest culinary delight”

Now he’s trashing part of it & not sure he can vote for an improved version of it!

And so like Rees-Mogg to not even notice the irony of comparing Brexit to a French dish.

Isn't Rees-Mogg the guy that used to show up to press conferences and engagements early in his political career with his nanny? How does anyone take this guy seriously

LOL my right-wing TERF cousin adores him since she is the sort who confuses education (Rees-Mogg is VERY good at quoting Latin, Scripture and obscure philosophers or literary characters) with intelligence.

And, yes, I'm fully aware I'm saying that as an educator.

There's also white ketchup. Which appears to have an "interesting" flavor.
