These Democrats, especially her, are full of shit and you should be ashamed of yourself for supporting them. Meanwhile, this exchange happened.

That's right, the Biden administration wanted them to remove a Tweet from Robert Kennedy jr. talking about Hank Aaron's death might be related to the vaccine. But that's totally fine because it's Biden and much like the majority of Turdforge, you're a leftist partisan hack. Go ahead, facepalm my post, that's all you got.

Oh, so close. You see, DWS is an unmitigated twatwaffle who has no business being in Congress, so the fact that she was able to own a witness speaks volumes about how fucking stupid that witness was.
Fun fact: Robert Kennedy, Jr is a Democrat, and a fucking antivax idiot. He doesn't merely hate the COVID vaccine, he hates all vaccines. Given that various social media sites have been working on clamping down on antivaxxer posts, I don't really see the issue with the Biden administration saying, "Yeah, if you guys could treat his antivax posts the same as you do the other ones, that would be great." Mind you, this isn't nearly as restrictive as the FDA preventing people trying to hawk snake oil from selling their products, but I'm sure you object to that as well. Nevermind that history is replete with people selling literal poison as "medicine" before the FDA was created and that even today, people find ways around the FDA's restrictions so that they can sell their, again, literal poison to folks who have no idea that they're being scammed.

She didn't "own" anyone, she did a bit of grandstanding and didn't let the witness fully answer the question because she didn't like the answer he was about to give. She has no business talking to anyone about ethics in the first place since she had to step down from the DNC. This is clearly a smear campaign. If you didn't get your "news" from thirty second clips on Twitter, you'd know that the other witness was allowed to answer some of word salad that came out of her mouth and corrected her, thus owning her. Your buddy who posted this clip selectively edited that out. He also selectively edited out Matt Taibi's response. Taibi was telling a story to Joe Rogan about Semour Hersh who had been given a story by the CIA and how Hersh wasn't sure how to handle this information since it came from the CIA and was suspect, but DWS didn't want the full context of the story, she just wanted to show boat foe the rubes like you who don't give enough of a shit to actually follow the story because your team is winning right now so who cares. Your buddy is not a journalist, he's a propagandist.

In claiming that DWS "bodied" Taibbi, you failed to add his response, where he explains the context for that quote (Sy Hersh talking about the CIA) and explaining that the Twitter Files are clearly in the public interest. Do you think they're not?

I can say that on Elon Musk's Twitter, free speech is paramount, and by that I mean you get banned if you tell a politician you sincerely hope they fall down a flight of stairs.
Ah well, Twitter account number 17 in process.

This whole thing is a meaningless show trial for rubes like you to lap up. There's not a goddamned thing going to come out of these hearings in the way of new laws or criminal prosecutions of anyone. These are more of the same bullshit hearings that the Benghazi ones were. You remember those, don't you? They were supposed to end with Hillary being in prison, and yet, somehow, once the Republicans gained control of Congress and the White House, nothing happened. The Republicans forgot all about Benghazi. Why? Because they knew there was no "there" there, and they also knew that none of you reprogrammable meatbags would remember it, or even ask questions as to why nothing more was happening about Benghazi. It was merely a ruse to get saps such as yourself on their side until they gained power. Because that was their goal: Power.

Sure, pal. She pointed out that dude didn't know WTF he was talking about because he didn't have the prerequisite knowledge to know if what he was saying was accurate or not. Now, perhaps, dude did say some of the right things about what was going on, but that's little different than me reciting what E=MC2 means. I have a slight grasp of it, I know the implications of it, but that's pocket lint in comparison to what someone who is trained in the fields where the Theory of Relativity is used. To attempt to present me as someone worth listening to on the subject in what someone is claiming is a "serious" hearing is beyond farcical. Now, granted, I have enough sense in such a situation to say, "Yeah, no. I'm not going because I'm not an expert on the situation." Because I recognize my limitations and I'm not out there trying to grind my personal political axe on the subject.

Not seeing how that's relevant to the specifics of this instance, but whatever. It's not like he got on one of the highest-rated cable shows and tried to claim that the folks who stormed the Capitol on Jan 6th were largely peaceful and wandering around because they thought that they'd been invited in.

Imma gonna stop you right there. "Telling a story to Joe Rogan" is a key phrase. If you ever find me posting something along the lines of "was telling a story to Jon Stewart (or another famous lefty TV personality whose only credentials are that they're a celebrity)" is somehow worthy of being put forward as a witness in something like a Congressional hearing or a court case, you have my permission to call me a dumbass, because you'll be right. Oh, and if you poke around on these boards, you'll find that on more than one occasion, I've said that even if I happen to agree with them, I don't think that celebrities should be taken seriously on political subjects. Why? Because they tend to take attention away from experts who understand the topic.

Hersch is a weird cat. Dude has done some serious journalism in his time, but I'm sorry, anyone who claims the following is clearly off their nut.
I'm sure, for various reasons, the official account of how we killed OBL isn't 100% correct. And I don't personally give two shits if OBL was standing there with his hands up when he was shot, or if he was reaching for a gun when he got plugged. I know all the arguments about this, and I just don't fucking care. Dude got what he deserved, but to think that he was in a Pakistani government facility and the US just wandered in and plugged him while the Pakistanis let it happen is more than a bit much.

If you think that DWS and the Dems are the only ones showboating, you're woefully naive. Hand Congress and the White House over to the GOP in 2024, and I'll happily bet you that everything about this is forgotten by the Republicans even before they're all sworn in.

Oh, and please, find me where Rupar has made the kind of false claims like your buddy Andy Ngo, who claimed that he was pelted with cement milkshakes and we'll talk.

Nope. Never said "bodied." I said "owned." Get your facts straight before you accuse someone of something, if you want them to take you seriously.

Given the way the Twitter files have been presented? No. Do I think that it's possible there's information in the public interest in all the shit Twitter has? Absolutely. But until its addressed in a serious manner, such as a court of law (and no, I don't particularly care who might have appointed the judge in the case, as even if the judge is corrupt, there's enough legal mechanisms to make the truth known, regardless of how any of the judges might rule, either in the original case or on appeal.

The same cannot be said of Congressional hearings, regardless of party. Yes, sometimes they can and do get to the heart of the matter and reveal important information. But that's not always the case, and many times they are nothing more than political theater. Again, regardless of party.

There's a lot of talk in Congress about making changes to Section 230. That's the law that says if someone posts something heinous on the web, the site hosting it can't automatically be held responsible. So, you know, if I were to post a death threat against Trump here, the Feds can't do anything to the owners of WF, even if they can go after me for making death threats.

I am open to making changes to Section 230 because I think that it could use some tweaks. After all, a company worth billions of dollars has a greater ability to deal with things than a site like this does. However, there are maybe a handful of people in Congress who I think have enough understanding of how the internet works that I would trust to be able to vote the right way on such a bill, regardless of party. And probably only one or two in Congress that I'd actually trust to write such a law to begin with, and that's being generous on my part. So my default response, regardless of who puts such a bill forward, is to say leave Section 230 as it is because I doubt that those in power will be able to come up with something better. YMMV.

This is going to be interesting.
Ignoring the political aspects of the situation, this has the potential to absolutely wreck Twitter. Scammers, who manage to figure out vague details of how a site's algorithms work, can do a lot of damage. Almost every social media site out there has had to deal with some disgusting slimeball figuring out a workaround for the algorithms and spamming users with things like porn and malware. You publicly release the algorithm you're presently using on the site, and it'll be like nuking puppies in a barrel for the scammers to be able to get their shit in front of everyone.

Musk couldn't be more blatant with his aims if he were a nursing home orderly pouring glowing green liquid from a bottle with a skull on it into the resident's tea.

Sane observer- "Hey, I think he's trying to kill these old people".
Receptionist who stopped caring- "Nah, it's fine".

Us- "Hey, I think he's trying to kill Twitter".
Conservatives with a doomsday hardon- "Nah, it'll be great".

Course...the doomsday hardon bunch have been saying that about Trump, Desantis, anti-wokism, unregulated guns, January 6th, anti-vaxx, anti-mask, Putin, etc, etc, etc.

At this point I hope he does kill Twitter. Of course something else will come along to replace it, there's already groups trying. And of course no one can trust Twitter as long as he holds the reins. Oligarchy R Us.

Not sure if this should go here or in the Trump crime thread, but a whole bunch of Twitter accounts that haven't posted anything since November of last year have suddenly become active again. Some of them are bots, I'm sure. Maybe folks decided to hop back on Twitter after they heard Trump might be arrested, or perhaps someone's decided to activate their bot armies for some reason.

I’d say that even $20 billion is overvaluation for the company, since that was probably more than it was worth when he bought it.

Hey @elonmusk what’s this about blue checks going away unless we pay Twitter? I’ve been here for 15 years giving my ⏰ & witty thoughts all for bupkis. Now you’re telling me that I have to pay for something you gave me for free? What is this-the Colombia Records & Tape Club?

Actually, giving something to someone for free that they become dependent on and cannot quit despite how toxic and shit it becomes for them is called addiction.

You have no legal obligation or contract to use twitter like the old columbia house deal. The reason why you got so much free shit from CH was because they would profit by your future purchases. Twitter charging you for a service you do not want to live without is the business model of cocaine, heroin, alcohol, pot, tobacco, or any other addictive substance. You owe twitter nothing.

Fucking Twitter junkies give junkies a bad name.

Using someone's personal information to assume their identity and defraud others is a crime called identity theft. Perhaps this is something that we should be charging people with crimes over, and not leaving to some stupid blue check and piss poor security. In this case Twitter should be held accountable, at least in civil court, for assisting in the fraud and stealing of other's identity through their piss poor security which they are touting as verification.

Maybe, since branding is a thing, it is time that internet corporations who exist because of branding like twitter, facebook, instagram, youtube, and others we hold the venue accountable for fraudulent use of the brand, or in this case the identity of a person.

That's one of the many ways in which it's clear Elon doesn't understand the business he has bought. Verified check marks came about because Twitter was getting legal attention from people being imitated on there.

I’ve said it before but Musk fundamentally doesn’t understand his product.

In this case the purpose and value of verification.

See Right Wing Twitter like Right Wingers in general HATE knowledge and expertise. So when one of them would claim something stupid and an expert in the subject would correct them and lay down facts everyone would side with the expert and it hurt their little feelings. Since it couldn’t be that they were wrong and that is why people disagreed with them it must have been the Blue Checkmark (the PhD in X and Chair of Y, author of Z in the bio isn’t as visual and they are very visual) that made everyone side with the expert.

As they do they used their hurt and anger to create an enemy. Blue Checkmark Twitter. Memes were created. Rants spewed. The Fart Sniffers stomping on the Little Guy, etc etc.

Elmo got sucked into the Right Wing Echo Chamber and bought into that the Blue Checkmark was just a status symbol for elites.

But that simply isn’t what they are. People didn’t believe the geneticists over Billy BoB BECAUSE the geneticist’s Blue Checkmark. They believed him because of the ‘PhD in X and Chair of Y, author of Z’ in their bio which the checkmark just verified.

But Elmo doesn’t understand, he’s too sucked into the Right Fever Swamp so thus we have the flailing about with the Blue Checkmark.
