Even in DS9, Dax hesitated when Kira ordered the Defiant to go to warp within the Bajoran system. She only relented when Kira pointed out there wouldn't be a Bajoran system in a minute if they didn't catch the changeling they were after.

Quantum scan his corpse's brain, save until golem tech comes along.
No way Shatner could keep a secret that big in RL though.

That was actually a pretty good episode of Trek! I started out a little annoyed that they were tugging so hard on my nostalgia strings but by the end, resistance was futile for me. At this point, S3 of Picard is the best this series has ever been.

Brent Spiner never got the credit he deserves as an actor. It was absolutely amazing how he was just sitting in a chair and within a few words, you knew exactly which iteration of a Soong android he was. I mean, this guy was in the series the whole time and when he was reactivated and said "Geordi?" I got goosebumps! It was Data! Great actor, not enough credit, IMHO.

Geordi has always been my favorite TNG character. It was so good to see him back and even better to the ensemble back together. The dynamic between them started to come back. This is the only reason I stuck with Picard for so long. Geordi, his daughter Alondra (played by Lever Burton's actual daughter, Mica Burton) & Sydney were so good. Sydney is so much like him and he doesn't even realize it. It's not lost on me that in the first season of TNG, Geordi was sitting exactly where Sydney is now, wearing the exact same uniform she is now, the helmsman of a Federation Starship. It would warm my heart by a thousand suns if she decided to transfer to Engineering by the time this season ends. :) She's shown some engineering prowess.

FUCK!! When did I get so old?

With a bit of distance and hindsight I'll probably find a lot of issues with the writing in that one, but my immediate reaction is that it was the most fun Star Trek has possibly ever been.

Memory Alpha says Earth Spacedock was moved to another system and became the fleet museum we saw this week. I don't see any support for this. It's not like Spacedock was a unique design. We see it in TNG several other times at different planets.

One missed opportunity in the episode would have been a cameo shot of the Self-Aware Meglomaniacal Computer Storage room... imagine Peanut Hamper or AGIMUS taunting Worf...

Maybe in the hanger Geordi's daughter brought up before he shushed her? There was an empty ring for them to hide in so SOMETHING goes there.

Random observation I mentioned elsewhere (I think?) - I want to see an easter egg about someone OTHER than Kirk. No offense, and maybe it wouldn't apply here since Kirk was the one out of his own time...but I'd be impressed if at some point the easter egg referred to, say, Captain Sulu.

Grain of salt. Why the changeling’s want Picard’s human body is because they want to Locutus.

Rumors and speculation is that Kirk is coming back. If it is then it’s Shatner. I don’t know, I don’t think they’d go that far.

Well, the TNG showrunners do owe an apology to the fans for how they treated Kirk in Generations.

But I agree. Not sure if Patrick Stewart's ego (or Shat's ego) would permit the return of James T. Kirk in a show called Picard.

It just finally clicked for me where I've seen the "Picard's body" plot from!
    Transformers!
In the Marvel comics, Optimus Prime got blown to bits, and Ratchet re-assembled him, but he stayed dead, so they had a space funeral for him.
Turned out, his soul was downloaded and put on an 80's floppy disk (yeah, I know).
So, the Autobots find out about this, and take his disk to an alien planet where they build him a new body that just happens to be the new toy
Later on, a bad guy tracks down Prime's original body to try to siphon the residual matrix power out of it.

There you go, Marvel predicted Picard season 3.

At least the Doctor Who novels (and later the TV show) had bad guys trying to get ahold of the future Doctor's corpse (in the novel, because he'd fought and died in the "Not The Time War You Know From The Telly" and his timey-DNA contained a lot of future knowledge, in the TV show because you could use his corpse to access his timestream).

Yeah, this would have been so much better with the Conspiracy parasites. :sigh:

I'll give them partial credit for lampshading how hammy and arch Spiner is playing Lore this time around, to the point of acknowledging that Lore knows exactly how he's coming off and that he's doing it intentionally. :async:

I felt some real satisfaction when one of the changelings stabbed the fuck out of the Dr. Mengele wannabe and then Vadic took her face as the ultimate insult. I mean, seriously? Now we have Nazi style medical experiments with a 'whistle while you work' attitude? Fuck me, sideways, only a handful of episodes left on this dreary, sad display of characters I genuinely care about.

Picard and Co versus corrupt Federation officers is always the ultimate show of Trek ideals, but at the same time the whole point is that the whole Federation is better than this, not just a few heroes.

The Mengele stand-in was supposed to be S31, though, right? And it was an Operation Paperclip allegory that the Federation just turned a blind eye to the plague. So nothing we didn't already know, just now we're being shown the bits DS9 only alluded to.

I don't know if they're supposed to be S31 or not, as it's part of the Daystrom Institute. It also didn't change that Picard and Crusher were intent on killing Vadic, and their shitty, plot based aim is how she got away. Whether or not that's justified, it's clear there's a lot more gung-ho militarism in this modern series, not necessarily something I like.

DS9 did have a lot of militant notes to it, but at the same time, they made sure you understand that each foray into less than ideal action was a very difficult decision made each day, that the goal was still to end the war, protect life as much as possible, and be better than your enemy on as many fronts as possible. Picard as a series seems to embrace the idea that "fuck it, let's go out guns blazing at the first provocation." I think Lily would be disappointed in Jean-Luc.

I'm under the impression that the Dr. was Section 31. I initially didn't like this episode, but after watching it a second time, I think it works. We know that Worf and Raffi are on their way back to the ship so I'm assuming they were told about the plan and I'm assuming they have a plan to get onto the Shriek and rescue Riker. Tuvok is also being held by the changlings so he's probably part of a rescue plan as well. Seven will probably be involved in rescuing Tuvok while the rest of the gang rescues Riker and Troi. That then leads into the final two episodes. I also am guessing that a couple of more surprises are in store.

A couple of observations, the bigger baddie isn't a changling so what is he? Is the entire crew of the Shriek on the Titan? If so, does Picard and crew pull a Star Trek 3 and beam over to the Shriek while the Titan goes into self destruct?
