My big question is how is Ursula being done?
Because, let's face it, she's what made the animated version work.

    You've got your looks
    Your pretty face
    And don't underestimate
The power of body language! Ha!

Side rant, but why in the everloving fuck can't Disney movies have actual COLOR to them these days?

At the very least, they could have the poster where she's out of the water be clear enough so we can actually see the actress

What, do Disney get billed more for saturated colors or something?

They should've gotten a drag queen to play the role as God intended :bailey:

Disney went through a period of flops in the 80's before Little Mermaid started the renaissance.
Don Bluth quit, and made his own studio, and kicked their asses for three movies, then it can be fairly well argued the Disney renaissance came from copying his style.
In an interview, Bluth said that the mice in "The Rescuers" don't have whites on their eyes, not as a style choice, but Disney wanted to save on white paint.
Yeah, they were penny-pinching on fucking eye-whites.
And then they couldn't figure out why their movies were starting to suck with bean-counting thinking like that running things.

ANYWAY! We seem to be coming full circle.

Ever seen Charles Nelson Riley’s one man show, “The Life of Riley”? His dad was an artist and Walt Disney showed up at their house one day to offer him a job. Disney said to Riley’s dad, “It’s really your use of color that makes you stand out, isn’t it?”

There’s a reason why Disney loved Technicolor: It allowed him to punch up the color wheel to a much higher saturation than they could otherwise get.

I was actually joking when I posted that, but in the age of ink an paint, some pigments did cost more than others so that makes sense there, along with that scratchy style of animation that had from "101 Dalmatians" to "Oliver & Company" from Xeroxing.

Last I checked, not even Photoshop is that greedy

White on their eyes like a catch light or white like humans? Because mice eyes don’t really have whites.

    Good point.
Still, they got the human whites upgrade anyway in "Rescuers Down Under".

Since they also got clothes, opposable thumbs and bipedal locomotion, I'd say the eye-whites were the least of their upgrades...

    Another trailer.

Hey, they finally turned the saturation up!

Hmm, Sebastian looks like a real crab.
Dunno how to feel about that, but all right.

Melissa McCarthy is physically transformed into the cartoon Ursula.
Still interested in seeing how they handle her singing voice.

    Meh, changed the title.
Wanted to taunt CHUDs, and thought the actual movie would get its own thread, but this became the thread.

I hope another character gets to sing it because live action Sebastian is already giving me nightmares from the two seconds he was in the trailer :brood:

Glad to see color was somewhat added but it seems pretty obvious that Halle Bailey is gonna be the best thing about this movie by a long shot. If it becomes the Velma of the Disney remake line, I wouldn't be surprised.

Also, no hate on Melissa McCarthy, but they do know there are other fat actresses out there who are funny and can sing? I mean, Queen Latifah wasn't half bad in the musical ABC aired a while back:

And Tituss Burgress is right there if Disney ever had the balls to honor the spirit of the drag queen Ursela was modeled off of:

 you're right and I was so glad that movie came out while I was at basic training so my friends couldn't drag me to spend money to see it.

    HISHE for the 90's animated.

Fun fact: the voice actress for the eels was the same as Gozer in original Ghostbusters.
She sounded that way because of throat cancer. :(

 Nice lampshade hanging on the 16 year old part, although it wouldn't have been an issue in the time it was set it, and sadly still isn't in other parts of the world.

Halle Bailey says the online trolling she received when she landed the role of Ariel pales in comparison to her grandparents’ experiences of racism in America’s Deep South.

The Little Mermaid star says she was shocked by the outpouring of online hate after it was announced she would play the fictional Disney character.

But she says she was able to put the vile trolling into perspective by considering the racism her grandparents had to put up with.

The singer was blindsided by the backlash against her casting when trolls accused Disney of going “woke” and spread hate on social media via hashtag #notmyariel

If you'd actually read the article she was specifically talking about the people that attacked her online after she was cast before ever watching a single moment of the film or seeing her in costume.

Nothing to do with the success or failure of the film, and nothing to do with anyone liking or hating the film itself since it hasn't even been made yet.

Seems like you rushed to judgment here without having any facts to support that judgment, much like the racists that criticized her in the first place.

I seriously doubt little girls care about the ethnicity of the actors. If the movie fails, it will be due to the parents not wanting their daughters to see it. Period. that's it.
