It does seem like the last time a lefty looney got himself riddled with holes, it was John Lenin. Er... Lennon.

While Volpone doesn't advocate most WFers getting shot, if you're ever in Norther Virginia, the Marine Corps Museum is quite nice. And the lines and parking are nothing like they are at the Smithsonian.

The recession has been a great boon to the military. In 2004-2007 they were having a very difficult time getting enough recruits even as they kept lowering entry standards even to the point of letting in convicted felons. Now there is a three month wait as many young men can't find a civilian job and so opt for going into the military.

You know, that's always botheed me about Army recruiting. Marines have a high standard regardless, but The Army writes their standards on an etch-a-sketch. One year they are foaming at the mouth about being a "detriment to combat" if you cannot meet X standards, the next year they lower the bar and change X standards to Y standards.

So now X standard meeters are working with the "detriments to combat" Y standards, shouldering a bigger share of the load whether it be literally or figuratively, as far as baby-sitting them.

The ultimate irony is you (the experienced X standard soldier) are now WORKING FOR the felonious Y soldier a couple of years down the road!

Here's my take.....one responsible soldier is better than two slackers/thugs/sleazoids. Less mouths to feed, more "bang for your buck",
less logistics needed for less (but more effective) soldiers, etc.
SO FUCK MANNING REQUIREMENTS! If we are short 50,000 soldiers who gives a shit? Has lack of soldiers ever been the major factor these days in defeat or victory? I don't mean Special Forces, pilots, etc.
I'm talking rank & file soldiers. I would sleeo better knowing that out of a six person squad, they all met the same standards to get there.

If you WFers only knew how many soldiers CANNOT SHOOT WORTH A FUCK you'd never sleep at night. They keep sending you back to the firing line (slipping you extra ammo on the sly) until you shoot well enough to go home. It took you 60 bullets (instead of 40) to get 26 holes in the target, but at least the commander's monthly statistics are good!

30,000 runners sign up for MCM every year and they quickly close out. Very, very few are going to quit at the last minute.

That is the benefit of having a small service. You can afford to be pickier. If you don't have to find as many people, you can have higher standards. You can also spend more time and money on their training. :cylon:

I think Caboose is only looking for justice for the enemies of the U.S. who are putting our troops in danger and getting our allies killed.

Not really. There are always other job options, they just don't pay as well.
And if you aren't responsible enough to hold down one of those jobs, you aren't going to get into The Army. The standards may lower, but you still have to function at a level much higher than the average civilian.

If you consider a low-functioning murderous automaton to be higher functioning than the average civilian, sure.

Dude...dude...dude.....do you actually know any military people?
It would take two boys your size to even carry my employment resume, not that you would even understand what you were reading anyway.
Regardless, my employer hired me as an Electronic Tech III at 52K a year.
That's net pay, not gross BTW. He sure is going to be pissed that he's hired a murderous automaton!

Congrats? That money is being extorted from the taxpayers under the threat of force. You're an accessory to looting.
I'd imagine it's not a pressing issue for many employers, especially not in the mercenary industry.

That pic pisses me off! Right when I retired they developed (who are the ad wizards......?) a new way to carry your weapon. "High Ready" and "Low Ready" or some such. In that pic that soldier has the butt of his weapon all tucked up into his neck and his hand all bent backwards.

All it does is give you a cramp and muscle fatigue, a well as make it awkward to walk that way. So now when it's time to throw lead, your arms + hands are all FUBAR!

We didn't do this bullshit when I was in Iraq 2003. You just carried your fucking weapon...it wasn't rocket science! You might carry it muzzle-down in populated areas for safety (accidental discharge) or whatever, but damn.....we didn't get wrapped around the axle over it.

They way we carried weapons was the same way soldiers had been carrying weapons basically forever....and we could shoulder + fire just as fast as this newfangled way of carrying - probably faster.

So here I was, returning from Iraq and having some REMF (Rear Echelon MotherFucker) tell me I'm not "carrying my weapon correctly!" WTF?
    I'm a 42 year old combat vet.....kiss my ass.
