With the preseason nearly over, it's time for a football thread! Go Niners! :weep:

Okay, actually, I'm hoping someone can teach me in the next 9 hours some good strategies for the fantasy football draft I've gotten myself into. 12-team, snake draft, PPR. I've never played fantasy football before.

You should check with @TheLonelySquire, I'm pretty sure he's an avid participant in fantasy football leagues.

What is your draft position? This year the preferred strategy in a 12 team ppr is to go receivers early and often with a couple of exceptions. If you have Sirius or XM radio listen to Channel 87 as it's a dedicated fantasy channel. A free info site that's pretty decent is Fantasy Football Today. Don't be a homer (I said HOMER, guys!) and have fun! Any questions just ask.

Also, do NOT take a quarterback, no matter who it is, before round 5. Receivers and running backs. There's a lot more but that's a start.

Was #5 in a snake draft. Ended up with:

    QB: Andrew Luck (Ind)
    RB: Todd Gurley (LA)
    RB: Mark Ingram (NO)
    WR: Brandin Cooks (NO)
    WR: Eric Decker (NYJ)
    TE: Delanie Walker (Ten)
    FLEX: Marvin Jones (Det WR)
    D/ST: Packers
    K: Adam Vinatieri (Ind)

    Bench:

    T.J. Yeldon, Jax RB
    Eli Manning, NYG QB
    Michael Thomas, NO WR
    Jason Witten, Dal TE
    Raiders D/ST
    Shaun Draughn, SF RB
    Roberto Aguayo, TB K

I'm figuring Hyde will get injured by week 5 and Draughn will take over, which is kinda important as I have a fair number of week 5 byes. Thoughts on waivers?

You did really well for someone who's never played before. What was your draft position, between 4-6?

Your top 3 are great in Gurley, Cooks & Ingram. When did you take Luck?

Waiver wire - see if Minnesota D is a available. They're really good this year. Droughn is not doing you any favors..what other rbs are out there? Riddick perhaps? Don't worry about bye weeks...at all. Deal with that when it gets much closer. And think about not carrying a 2nd qb. You should use that spot on a player you might actually use. Grab a fill in qb for Luck's bye week later.

Yeah, #5, snake draft. Took Luck in round 5. Cam Newton went in round 2, Aaron Rodgers and Drew Brees went in round 4, Russell Wilson went in round 5 before my position.

Vikings D/ST was taken in round 16, Riddick in round 10. The RB market has been pretty thoroughly plundered. The projected top 4 free agents are Kenneth Dixon (out), Chris Thompson (questionable), Ka'Deem Carey, and Reggie Bush. Based on 2015 numbers, the top 4 FAs are suspended, injured, fired, or questionable.

The WR market is a little better, but not great. My choices for a 6th WR are on the order of Mike Wallace, Kenny Stills, Kenny Britt, Terrence Williams, and Eli Rogers.

TE seems like maybe a better place to go for a 3rd, although the selection is limited. The only 3 with more projected points than Draughn are Clive Walford, Jared Cook, and Kyle Rudolph.

Bills, Buccs and Ravens are the top 3 D/STs left.

The K mart is wide open, but I'm the only team with a backup kicker. I somehow doubt I need a third.

Also, should I start Manning or Luck this week? Conventional wisdom says Luck all the way, but Manning has a higher projected score this week. How good are these projections anyway?

My bench RBs outscored my starters, but I still won the week by the skin of my teeth (thank you Luck). :garamet: Have I (has everyone) overestimated the ability of the Rams' QB to just give the damn ball to Gurley?

The Rams suck, which is a pity because there's still no football in Los Angeles.

Thinking I should start Yeldon instead of Gurley, by all the numbers. Gut says I should stick with Gurley, despite going up against the Seahawks. Thoughts?

The Seahawks are one team the Rams have bothered to show up for the last few years.

Realized I could solve this by subbing out my FLEX player for Yeldon. Going to stick with Luck over Manning. Denver seems like less of a problem than thunderstorms.

Well that went disastrously. Yeldon (and Gurley) were worthless. If Gurley fails again this week, I'm trading him.

Thinking about picking up the Vikings D/ST for the Raiders and running them instead of the Packers this week. OPRK of 8th instead of 4th, higher projected points.

Alternatively I could go all in against Gurley this week and pick up the Buccs D/ST. I'd probably have to trade Gurley though, as my RB bench is not great.

Delanie Walker might be out tomorrow, and I'm nervous. He doesn't play at the same time as my bench TE.

Seahawks helmet is OLD, (Actually the one I like better than the new one.) Love the old 70's style rams helmet. :D

NFL ratings are down this season, which sucks.

But is it due to reasons that should only be discussed in the Red Room?

Anyone else out there collecting the Bud Light NFL cans? So far I have Bengals, and Colts (Both Local) and the Ravens, Dolphins and Jags. I have some one sending me the Browns and Steelers. My friend is going to Orlando in 2 weeks and I am hoping to get the falcons, panthers and Bucs, and MAYBE the titans.

He seemed like a nice guy, but he just didn't get things done in St. Louis. A large part of that was not having much to work with, but:

Yeah, sadly the Rams suck, but I'm still glad they're back in L.A. Not that St. Louis didn't get screwed, but then, so did L.A. in the first place.

Everybody following deflate-gate 2? Goodel sure isn't.
