    Know what's really sad?

This isn't even remotely true. Maybe were not at precisely the smartest, brightest times, but we're close.

As fucked up as shit is right now, we're fairly close to the best things have ever been.

As fucked up as shit is right now, throughout most of human history, things were at least a little bit worse, and usually a whole lot worse.

Compared to what humanity reasonably should be capable of, things are terrible. Compared to our track record, things are great.

The worst part of all? There's not really a good reason why there's such a disconnect between the two.

What's dumb about it is precisely that we clearly have the capacity to be doing things MUCH better and arguably were in the not that distant past. If you CAN'T do much better you can't be slagged for the state you're in. But we CAN and simply elect not to in many ways.
(Albeit, credit to the many smart things the Dems somehow managed to get through Congress in the past two years in spite of the idiocy)

What makes it dark is the lack of an obvious off-ramp to overcome the neofascist path that half of the states in the country are on, and which 30-40% of voters are eager to welcome. In, say, 1970 we could look at the progress since WW2 and think "shit is getting steadily better and while there's much work to do we can see a shiny outcome."

Now when we look back over a similar time frame politically, we're forced to ask "what the actual fuck is happening to us?"

Dumbest? Darkest? I suppose a lot of arguments can be made depending on what the criteria are (for example, if you were a slave 200 years ago that's gonna be the darkest times) but what makes it FEEL that way to a lot of us is that it's so VERY much dumber and darker than any rational people SHOULD be.

That's probably the main issue right there: there aren't very many rational people. Irrational people can be easy to persuade, but unfortunately, the selfish people making everything bad usually get to them first. If I figure out a way to undo such manipulation, I'll let everyone know.

Most of the people in a position to really change things don't want to, and do just enough to gaslight the masses into thinking they are. The people who are both in a position to really change things and have an actual desire to do so, are extremely rare. It has always been this way.

That is definitely a hell of a problem.

    I'll do what I can.

Liberals always think that they’d be the ones to stand up to the authoritarians, yet often support authoritarian rule as long as it progresses their agenda.

FF/UA's butt-hurt over Trump losing and the coup failing is palpable.
It's cute that they think their dog whistling fools us.

He suffers from TDS. He’ll bring up Trump in threads that have nothing to do with him. He’s obsessed.

Nova's post had nothing to do with Trump, it was a vague statement that could apply to anything. Trump lives rent free in your brain.
