good point! If Nazis are such a threat (just from their ideals alone, forget physical threats) then I'm sure no jury would convict anyone for shooting them on sight, right? Because one rally/demonstration ending in a fatality surely means that the US is literally at war, right?

No. I'm consistently on the record here as not supporting the shooting of anyone, even in self-defense. Trying to kill someone is entirely different from self-defense using one's body.

You can't claim someone is an imminent, existential threat to someone else, but then say using deadly force is off the table.

You're trying to have it both ways. They either are a threat or they aren't. If they are, they are subject to being stopped by deadly force. There isn't a "quasi-threat that's punchable but not shootable" part of the law.
I'm actually arguing that it's you who is blurring the lines between the two.

In more ways than one - he keeps claiming that he's a pacifist and doesn't want to see violence, yet keeps making excuses for and defending those who start fights against people legally exercising their first amendment right.

This thread is why we cannot talk any trash on the internet. Yeah s, it would be completely illegal and ill advised to punch a modern Nazi without more provocation other than being a Nazi. We are no longer at war and they have surrendered which means their old aggression is not presently relevant without some form of new threat being made. I assumed it was a joke about punching Nazis and that no one was actually going to take it as advice because punching anyone without the threat of physical harm is an escalation that is most likely going to land you in jail. Some people may find it morally ok to assault a Nazi despite being illegal, and it is safe to say a Nazi does find harm to those they oppose as morally ok despite perhaps violating laws of most countries.

It is a joke. Before anyone gets all huffy about the joke being in bad taste I would rather joke about punching a Nazi than joke about punching a Jew or other person as a Nazi would so still better than a Nazi imo, but perhaps you may be fine with Nazi humor.

Oh, and one can stop being a Nazi, but one cannot stop being black which may be why racial humor may be considered different. Just a thought.

That isn't what I'm getting at, which is the lameness of claiming you were just joking all along when you get backlash from something you said or did. I used Ramen as an example simply because of how obvious it was that claiming "it was just a joke, bro!" wouldn't work.

Pure insanity. The world is not divided into people who are certain to kill you in the next moment and people who definitely won't hurt you physically when they get in reach. That your guns have convinced you of an ontology defined by pulling the trigger or not is as sad as it is frightening.

    This is absolutely hilarious.

"We should be able to initiate violence against Nazis because their symbols and rhetoric are evidence of an immediate threat to others, and we are therefore justified by self-defense."

"So we can shoot them since they're an imminent threat?"

"Well, they're not THAT MUCH of a threat."

If the Olympics gave out medals for mental gymnastics, Leftforge in this thread would take gold, silver, and bronze.

I don't think violence should be initiated against Nazis.

I just think Captain X, Zombie, Dinner, CoyoteUgly, and oldfella are disingenuous, hypocritical, and full of steaming spicy shit that you can smell-taste.

Yes, because you've NEVER been caught out being a hypocrite, over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over for the past 3-4 years.

No. But it would be perfectly acceptable to point a gun at him and either order him to leave or detain him until the police arrive.

Self-defense law generally requires you be in imminent, credible danger of harm before using deadly force against another person.

And before you ask: no, punching him isn't allowed, either.

If you didn't have a gun and he started to make a move on your Lawrence Welk LP collection, would punching him be ok?

You missed the "if you didn't have a gun" part.

In which case you can threaten to punch him, but not actually do so unless they don't comply with the order to leave or wait for the police.

None of which is germane to Nazis marching in public.

I never claimed I was perfect, no one is, you said I was a "untrustworthy" which is a claim you have completely failed to demonstrate in any way.

So far all you have done is whine about your butt hurt and link to something completely irrelevant to your claim. I have seen 5 year olds act more mature and more emotionally stable then you are acting now.

You know who I always felt bad for?

    Jim Fowler.

Marlon Perkins hosted the show--Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom, for all you young'ens--from a nice comfortable television studio, while poor Jim Fowler was out there in the field getting set upon by who knows what.

"And, now, let's watch Jim Fowler as he is torn apart by crocodiles."
"Let's go to Jim Fowler and see how he's dealing with those cobras."
"Here's Jim Fowler being chased by a Bengal tiger."
