I dont know if you all are aware, but Mallory from TrekBBS has been fighting cancer for several years. This week he lost the battle.

I will miss him dearly. He was a damned good man, father and husband.

Just from what I had seen of him on TBBS, Mallory was a great guy. Fun sense of humor, and he was always fair and even handed as a Mod. He always had something interesting to say, and I think the board will be a bit darker now that he's gone.

    May he rest in peace.

I've missed his presence in our shared forum for a while. He was a great guy with a good sense of humor. He actually taught me a lot about how to moderate our forum.

    Rest in peace, Mal.

don't know about his work at TBBS but I remember many a night in chat here at
WF with him and he seemed like a very good guy.

Aw geez. He was a standup guy. I guess I knew he had cancer. But somehow it didn't sink in. I remember when I first came over here. I think he'd pop in from time to time, and I always wanted to do a Portland meetup with him and Kyle.

I so wished my travels had taken me to Oregon. I guess its for reasons like this one that I try to meet up with other WF and TBBS posters when ever I think I am near them

Damn shame. I was thinking about him the other day.

I was also thinking about Captain Chewbacca as well. He was having a hard time of it as well if I recall.

I seem to remember him saying once that he was in a pretty shit state. I guess because he wasn't "one of the faces" people didn't pay much attention.

Had a flick through some of his posts. A few worth putting in here....

That was in 2009. At leas he got a little more time with his family.

Just under a year ago -
    :(

But, I found this the most interesting of all, and I think his example warrants consideration by a lot of people on this board, especially the last few words:-
I think there's a lot to be said for civlity on here. I fear that perhaps we have gone too far with our lack thereof.

Looks like this was his last post at Wordforge. If anybody wants to, y'know, rep him or something.

This is sad news indeed. Mallory and I were on-line friends from way back. He told me one of the most hilarious scout stories I have ever heard. (With instructions not to repeat it; it was the story of how he got banned for life from scouting, and he didn't want to be giving any ideas to anyone.)

When Lisa asked me to mod, I asked his advice and he basically told me I shouldn't. He said I would lose my enjoyment of the board, and end up regretting it. How many times over the years I have wished I had listened to him.

He was a wise and wonderful man (who would have deserved to be reinstated in scouting). I'm really sorry to hear he's gone. :(

    :salute:

    He was amazing.

He was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer and given 6 months to live, as El Chup posted, but instead of giving up he fought. He went through a hellish time of a bone marrow transplant that nearly killed him, chemo and radiation and to his doctor's surprise kicked it's ass.

Then he had a relapse...and the doctor's said that he had a 10% chance of surviving it..he went through chemo and radiation again and again kicked it's ass. But they warned him that the next time, if he got it again that there would be little they could do and he'd have at best a 1-2% chance of surviving it. He told me he didn't care what they said that he would never stop trying if, God forbid, he had a third relapse.

Obviously, I can't be certain, but most likely that is what happened.

He never felt sorry for himself, he was always grateful for every moment and a huge personal inspiration for me. The very definition of grace and generosity of character. His wife and children must be desolate and Wordforge has yet another huge hole in it's heart that can't be filled.

Rest in peace, finally, Mallory...you will be very much missed.

I moved this from the Gray Room because while it was posted at TrekBBS, Mallory was just as much a part of our family and everyone should know the terrible news. :(

Skin never interacted with the guy -- but from everything that's been said here, Skin wishes he had.

Condolences to his friends and family.
