Would it be possible with the software to add the ability to leave a comment with a like? It doesn't have to be publicly viewable, as long as the poster getting the like can see it in the alerts.
The reason for this is twofold: sometimes a post is old enough that it's stupid to revive the whole thread just to add a comment to it. And a post can merit a short positive comment that might be out of place or overlooked in an active thread.

    Possible?

They test ran a comments feature, and got rid of it.

That version was pretty annoying, but I could see one that just shows the comment with the notification. No idea whether such an option exists, but we can look around.

Part of me misses the message feature, but...rep-cowards were using it to stalk, and not have to put their nastiness up for public consumption.

I liked the version tried where you could comment on comments.
With that, you could fight back, and the very fact it was there would discourage rep-cowards.

IIRC, the main issue with the system we had for a while was that it was weirdly formatted and took up an ungodly amount of space. If it could be styled (1) to take up the entire horizontal space instead of just a portion, and (2) so that three was a little "X number of comments -- show/hide" button, it might be more practical, but I would have no idea how to do that.

Yeah, that would be great, though I agree the version that was tested sucked.

In addition to markb's points, another use is that you sometimes want to clarify what you like about a post: For instance, not that someone's loved one has died, but that they're sharing and recovering; or, since this is Wordforge, vice versa.

Yeah, but if you're that awkward about the meaning, you can throw a "condolences. :(", post up along with it.

I mean, what, you care enough about the tragedy to click a button, but not to say something in a post?
    Is that the software's flaw?
    Hmm? Come on, now.

Which I do, but it might be well past that post at the time, and not appear anywhere near it.

Come on, you know what I mean. I was going for a WF-ish laugh, but the principle applies to many, many posts. Hell, I sometimes even admire a witty wordplay in one of Castle's posts, but I'm not going to like his plea for shooting the wives of libertarian heroes stealing from their neighbours and cussing out blacks in toto because of it.

Yeah, I kind of miss line-item-veto-ing a rep, but I can work around it.

    It needs to come back.

As does the sub-heading for the title of threads.

Any board without those features will always be 3rd rate, IMO! :polarslam:

I like the system as it stands.

If something is good enough to post a comment in a like box then just post it.
