With Patrick Warburton!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! One of the finest sitcoms evar!!! I've heard interviews with Warburton where he sounded particularly bitter about Fox cancelling the show (even going so far as accusing them of deliberately killing it because they wanted to air more reality shows).
This is where things could finally get interesting with Amazon. So far, Amazon Studios has been putting out dreck with largely unknown actors. But this could (emphasize could) be really good.
Wait, didn't they make Alpha House? That starred John Goodman, therefore it was by definition excellent.
I have a feeling that it'll get some enhancements in post production with cgi as is commonly done these days.
The pilot is up on Amazon for watching. Having seen it, I can say that you shouldn't go in expecting Patrick Warburton's Tick. There's elements of his version to it, but it's not identical. I would put this somewhere between Orange is the New Black and the original live action Tick series, if I had to make a comparison. The Tick is still "the Tick," but there's greater depth to Arthur and some of the other characters than in the Patrick Warburton version. Definitely worth a gander, if for no other reason than Arthur's sister is a hottie. Another way to look at this, now that I think about it, is that the Patrick Warburton version is "Galaxy Quest" and this is TOS Trek. Here's a review by a professional critic on the new series. And yes, it falls victim to my new pet peeve, but I still liked the episode anyway.
watched it, and really liked it. I like your analogy Tuckerfan, I wouldn't have thought of it but it's apt. I actually like it this way better (Warburton's perfection notwithstanding) and eagerly await more episodes. By the way, one of the other options - Jean-Claude Van Johnson - is funny as shit too. The Kevin Bacon vehicle sucks, IMO.
I'm watching the first new episode and I can't help but notice that Arthur's sister has a "friend" who looks suspiciously similar to Philip K. Dick. I've got to wonder if this isn't foreshadowing something.
Okay, I've finished all 6 episodes, and overall, I liked it. I will say, however, that the whole thing feels like that situation you get when you reach into the bag to get that last cookie or potato chip, and you discover that you've already eaten it. The whole bag was enjoyable, but because you weren't paying attention, you missed when you ate the last cookie/chip. And that's every episode. There's a bit of an indefinable something to the Warburton series which is missing from this one. The characters and world in the Warburton version seemed a bit more grounded than this one. I will say that dude's version of the Tick is like Craig's Bond when compared to Connery's. When everything drops into place, he's the goddamned Tick. When it doesn't, you accept him as the character, but you wish there was a bit more. Absolutely worth watching, and I hope that there's more to come. I'd also like @shootER to check out the 5th episode, if nothing else. There's something missed from the post-production work, and I'm not sure what it is. I'm thinking that maybe they didn't bother with doing all the color correction needed, but whatever it was, it's screamingly obvious during the fight scene. It just looks "off."
When/if we subscribe to Amazon again I will have to remember to check this out. I like the concept, but the few episodes I saw of the previous series just didn't do it for me.
Yeah I just binged watched all six last night. Type of binge: Oh shit, it's 530 AM! Thought it was pretty good. Was looking for more episodes and than finally figured out there is only six and it was just released two days ago. I hope they make more.
They've got six more episodes in the can, but nobody's said when they'll be released. http://www.cinemablend.com/televisi...into-two-parts-on-amazon-according-to-the-eps
Just watched it because The Orville was said to be on Amazon Prime and wasn't so fuck them... except I actually want to fuck them for giving us this goddamn slice of awesome. I haven't spotted your "times when it doesn't drop into place" because Serafinowitz is always on point - admittedly the cartoon didn't try the "Tick challenged with his own existence" stuff much, or times when Arthur didn't full on believe in Tick. Burt Kwouk is a goddamn legend. I like that they are making Tick out as powerful as he claims - it's entirely feasible that a mentally challenged superhero COULD wing it on powers alone. And I'm betting that might be the key to defeating the Terror - a reverse of the Batman/Joker situation - a hero so utterly bonkers the genius supervillain can't plan for him.
The Tick is stupid. A stupid concept. A stupid show back then, a stupid show now. Appeals only to that very special type of douchebag who thinks watching these kind of post-ironic genre deconstructions makes them "hip" and smarter than the average fan. Die, Tick. Die.
I watched the other one back in 2001 when it aired originally, but I barely remember it. I'm going to watch it again so I can compare the two. I'm disappointed that Warburton didn't return, but I like the new guy too. He does a good Adam West impression. Yeah, that type is annoying, but they're not as bad as the "people will think I'm smart if I hate on everything" type.
The Tick returns end of Feb, and there's a trailer out - looks like a helluva lot more action and Tick superheroics in the wake of the Terror's return: https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=2&v=PkBNBxQZbY4
