    Nope.

Social progressivism is a necessary but not sufficient ingredient to be a wokelord.

. You also have to be illiberal, lacking interest in intellectual discourse or academic research that complicates yours views, seeking to "cancel" dissenters, etc.

. Wokelords likely take the most extreme positions on relevant issues (eg, any effort to cautiously counsel a child experiencing gender dysphoria is transphobic and hateful; traditional mathematics is racist).

. They have to be strictly tribalistic and dogmatic, drawing hard lines and branding as immoral anyone who disagrees with them, even marginally.

. They likely support impractical and unworkable policies (eg, Defund the Police; letting the homeless, shoplifters, and rioters run roughshod over cities in the name of social justice).

. They likely take an unfairly negative view of the US and Western civilization, wanting to cancel even heroes like Lincoln.

. Finally, they care more about virtue signaling, language, and moralizing than taking the practical steps and making the hard trade-offs to improve lives materially.

These are just a few of the things separating mainstream progressivism from woke nonsense.

I don't think that the Democratic Party is especially beholden to woke nonsense, but people outside the party sure see it that way. It's a branding problem more than a substance problem, which is why a change of party could help.

I'm hoping that something along these lines will emerge in Idaho. I know that a lot of old-line Republicans are absolutely appalled by the way the party has been co-opted by the Loony Tunes crowd. We can hope.

There's a party already there for him: the Democrat party. Anyone who thinks the core party gives a flying rats ass about the far left is stoned off their gourd. :marathon:

Why would the middle ground corporate dems run to a third party when the dems have the star players? None of the Biden Boomers have a clue who Yang is, and if they do know of him they probably think he is some crazy leftie because of his stance on UBI. Maybe on the right you pull some log cabin republicans, but you are not doing much unless you start running some racists

I am not sure what Yang thinks he can do, but the idea that moderates will make an extreme move like going 3rd party completely misses the psychology of moderates. If you are going to make a third party you have to suck away the disgruntled fringe. How are you going to get the happy sheeple to move away from their shepherd? Yang's whole appeal was an extreme idea of UBI.

I am beginning to think Yang is trying a trump con. Obviously if he can get traction this will establish funds from a cult following. If he is going to do that he needs to lean into his UBI ideas because the moderates already have their cult.

I would sooner vote for Biden than Yang, and when you cannot get me with a third party pitch over the dems, you suck in the bad way.

""Wokelords" are something like a few hundred terminally online assholes makeing an ass out of themselves on social media who work to the benefit of the Reactionary right by providing convenient examples of "typical liberals" which they are very much NOT.

That is, they exist, but in such a tiny powerless self-referential bubble that they are barely there at all except as a propaganda tool.

    To wit

My Dude, the entire goddamn superstructure of radical right politics is held together with asserting superior moral virtue. The don't even HAVE a party without that glue.

    Where you been?

And by what evidence do you conclude that people who claim to care about equality and work to advance it are just feigning a veneer? That people who say they care about the homeless and actually get their hands dirty trying to address the problem are not sincere? Pick your issue. There is, from your vantage point, little way to distinguish between a "woke" poser on tik tok, a "woke" politician (say Cori Bush) literally going out every day to work trying to advance progressive policy, and "woke" activists literally in the trenches feeding the hungry, contesting the execution of someone on death row, working to help people struggling with addiction, and so forth.

It's ALL "woke" and the VAST majority of it is empathy-driven efforts to see society for what it IS and try to make it better - and it stands opposite the politics of "I got mine, sucks to be you, America is the greatest country God ever created never-speak-ill-of-her" jingoistic narcissism and greed.

This despite the bullshit the reactionaries pour into the ecosystem 24/7

The problem is considerably more widespread than that. We have at least 2 here on a board with less than 150 active members, and they’re overrepresented in local Democratic politics (see the San Francisco school board recalls). Are they your typical liberal? No. But they’re far from a couple hundred terminally online asshats. I’ve seen and met too many IRL to believe that.

Point of order: We have one wokelord that works overtime to make herself politically irrelevant, and one that's almost certainly egging the first one on as yet another troll. "they exist in a tiny powerless self-referential bubble" pretty much nails it.
