It has been three years since we have lost our beloved, opinionated, loving, prejudiced, sweetheart of a pain in the ass, Techman. He was Wordforge, through and through....not easily classified, individual and willing to speak his mind, and often. He spent a lot of time nightly in our chat room, and it was there that another side of him really shone...good solid advice, a wicked sense of humor and those of us lucky enough to be there watched the romance bloom and grow between him and Miss Manners. It was sweet and loving and we had a lot of fun not only witnessing it, but teasing them about it. Sadly, in 2007 he began having symptoms...and he even discussed them here. We begged him to get checked out...but he blew it off and wouldn't. Within a couple weeks he passed away from a heart attack, and we gained an empty space that will never be filled. Even three years later, the absence is still keenly felt by those of us who knew him, and of course his smilie is liberally used by all, and is still regarded as one of our best ones. I hope you all will take a moment to remember Techman, and perhaps share some tales and moments here with us. And this is also a time I like to encourage WFers to have a physical if they haven't this year...or to check with a doctor if you get any unusual symptoms. It is better to feel a little silly and be inconvenienced than to ignore it and end up like our departed friend. Wordforge says goodbye to a friend, June 6, 2007. And he speaks...even if he can't say my name right.
Re: Annual Techman Rememberance Thread As a latecomer, I was unaware that Techman had served in the military. Double
Re: Annual Techman Rememberance Thread My thread didn't get stickied. I even asked for it to get stickied.
Re: Annual Techman Rememberance Thread This thread reminds me that many of us have been here for a long time! Interesting to think that my basic posting style and online persona has not really changed much at all... but my personal life has changed drastically since I joined this place. Six years!! Even longer if you count TBBS (close to nine years) Time keeps on slippin'...
Re: Annual Techman Rememberance Thread I knew him from TNZ, where we already disagreed about freedom of religion. But Techman was one of those rare people who could disagree with you through and through about things, without taking it personally. It's a shame he didn't have 500 more rep points; his "rep title" would then be: "Techman does not sleep, he waits." That would seem so fitting...
Re: Annual Techman Rememberance Thread He was a nice guy. Back in the days when I chatted more, he and I would talk. Our little Trek corner of the Internet is diminished without his presence.
Re: Annual Techman Rememberance Thread He didn't offend me. I liked him, and not just because she liked him. He seemed like a straight-shooter and it was hard to argue with him about petty stuff, especially if you agreed with him on it. I am a firm believer in the idea that you should ask yourself what the victim of fate would have wanted. I certainly don't presume to know what he wanted, but if I a hardass like him, I would have wanted the rest of us to not pine so much after him. (Not a criticism of this thread)
Re: Annual Techman Rememberance Thread Wow, three years? So some reason, it feels liek so much more time has passed. Still,
Re: Annual Techman Rememberance Thread We should go back and rep his old posts until he gets to that level.
Re: Annual Techman Rememberance Thread Not to belittle his passing, but one of the takeaways of this is not to rely on Wordforge for medical advice.
Re: Annual Techman Rememberance Thread I think you're missing the point. There were far more people just telling him to get checked out and he blew it off. It wasn't that he was actually taking anyone here's advice.
Re: Annual Techman Rememberance Thread I'm out of rep now, too. I saw the two of you on just about every post of his I repped. Anybody else want to help rep Techman up a couple of notches?
Re: Annual Techman Rememberance Thread Can't Lanzman just go into the control panel and up Techman's rep to whatever it needs to be? I know it has been done before. That'd be much easier than hunting down posts and repping them.
