You said you were in a traffic jam. That should be enough to realize traffic was stopping frequently, and you also said she stopped abruptly, which happens in traffic jams. So you should have been able to avoid it if you where paying attention.

I suspect the real reason Dayton ran off wasn't because he figured the woman and her car were okay, but because as the following car in a rear-end collision, he was probably going to get hit with a traffic ticket.

That's usually why people rear end the car in front of them, yeah. :borg:

I can't believe that a hit and run pro like @Dayton3 is allowed to be a bus driver for kids.

Because I have a perfect driving record. I've seen my file (they have to send you a copy when you apply and are subsequently investigated).

Which is easy to have when you run away to avoid a ticket for following too closely.

Ultimately he admitted it in exchange for getting out of prison IIRC

Correction, Alford pleas. Maintained innocence but admitted that sufficient evidence existed for the prosecution to convict them.

No. They basically plead no contest, but didn't admit doing anything.

    Bummer.

When I'm in the Arkansas legislature I'll introduce a bill changing the method of execution.

We should acquire one of the new laser cannons that the U.S. Navy is deploying.

Time to bring capital punishment into the 21rst century.

Why don't they just legalize hangings? It is not like rope is in short supply.

Hanging is more an art than a science. Botched hangings were (and are) common. Look how bloody Saddam Hussein's turned out to be.

The guillotine was invented to produce a cleaner death than (mainly) hangings.

    What's wrong shootER?

You don't know hangings were frequently botched or the history of capital punishment methods.? I used to teach a unit on it. Something special for the kids.

It is really just a physics problem. You want the victim to drop enough he breaks his neck, not less so he strangles to death, but not so much he gets decapitated and makes for a messy clean up. The rope needs to have no stretch in it as well.

You need his current weight, and estimate for how much force is needed to break the neck, and you solve for height (H).

Meh, I'd guess the most humane way to execute someone is to space them via airlock.

Pretty sure that table won't work anymore since most prisoners are probably upwards of 200 lbs these days, and I imagine having a 300+ lb guy drop 5', while being hung by the neck is a recipe for a decapitation.

    It should be noted

    1) Of the six inmates whose executions were issued separates stays yesterday.

    2) ALL of them killed women or children

    3) At least three of them are linked to multiple murders.

    4) One was sentenced to life in prison for another murder, escaped days later and killed someone else. Then led police on a high speed chase that resulted in the death of yet another person.
