They are the reason I dislike Star Wars: The Old Republic. They nickel and dime you to death, everything's behind a pay gate, and that's even if you bought the game, you're still behind a pay gate for the simplest things. Want to run? That'll cost you. Want to level like normal players? That'll cost you. Want a new lightsaber? That'll cost you. Want to access the market? That'll cost you. Want to start over without having to slowly walk back to where you were killed? That'll cost you. It takes all the fun out of the game. They call it "free to play," but it isn't. It's more like "free to pay." Now, Star Trek Online knows how to make an F2P game work. STO is F2P with the option to buy various cosmetic updates, among a few neat little exclusive items, and ships, and they make money hand over fist. In STO, though, you can win the game (er, reach Admiralty), and reasonably quickly, without having to pay one cent, yet they continue to do very well as they make more and more content, bringing in more and more personalities from the various series' and movies. Bioware fucked up Star Wars online gaming. Gods only knows what they'll fuck up next.
