That is a 4 lane highway. For those who are not aware 695 would be one of the offshoots of I-95 around baltimore. I-95 is the main highway artery of the east coast, and this is one of the massive highways that splits off of it in one of the largest cities on the east coast. If you watch the video that is a lot of important bridge that just went down. This is going to take years to fix.

I had to look at the map to remember, 695 is the beltway around baltimore. This is going to push a huge amount of traffic onto the other highways around until they can get that bridge up again.

Actually, sounds like the local pilots were in charge at the time. Politico also reported the ship lost power and declared a mayday just prior to impact, so might not have been anything that could be done.

Yeah, it looks like, from the videos I've seen, the ship was repeatedly losing power, as there may have been a fire, and when they tried to pull it into reverse to keep it from hitting the structural support, one of the props failed, and it essentially slid right into the path of the structural support and nailed it.

I doubt this is anyone's fault as much as it is equipment failure at the worst possible time.

I am curious about that since it seems it just left port. What kind of safety maintenance or mechanical checks are performed prior to its departure?
