Brought the Riley AKM home. Here it (r) is with the Chinese Polytech AK/Type 56 (l) I bought waaaay back in 1989.

The Riley with its red wood stocks is prettier, and I love that AKM slant brake on the muzzle. Of course, my Polytech (registered AW) doesn't need the stupid fin grip.

Does the spike bayonet hold the cleaning rod secure, like it does on the SKS?

On all my AKs the tension caused by the offset of the hole where the cleaning rod is inserted and the holder near the muzzle is enough to keep the rod in place. Sort of like how the base of the bayonet on an SKS does the same thing.

The Type 56 (which Paladin's PolyTech is based on) is the only AK that was made with a folding cruciform bayonet. All others use regular knife-style bayonets attached with a conventional lug on the barrel.

And with the arrival of the AirLite 329PD (left), my collection of Smith and Wesson Model 29s is complete (29 Classic at upper right, 629 Stainless at lower right).

The 329PD is *really* light. It's noticably lighter than my 327 R8, which is itself a very light gun.

The gunshop owner suggested I change out the default wood grips for the included rubber grips if I were going to fire magnums. No shit. Did it very first thing.

Also picked up the S&W M&P 12 bullpup shotgun. I reckon it's about 15 minutes until California gets around to banning it...

    PSX_20220205_153725.jpg

It's very short overall, though surprisingly heavy. Actually gonna have to read the manual to take it apart!

No 629 Mountain Gun? For shame....

Excluding backups, I've only ever carried two revolvers on duty. My 629 Mountain Gun and my 3" FBI Model 66.

Sadly, I'm not exactly adventurous any more. For the last five years ago or, it's been a Les Baer Thunder Rach model in a shoulder rig under my coat. Nobody expects the Judge to be packing. :ramen:

My 629 4" is pretty close, no?
I was on a mission to get a Thunder Ranch (based largely on your praise of it), but they don't seem to be available any more. Les Baer still makes several models available in California; I may have to look for an alternate.
