Biden had no wiggle room to stop supporting Israel after October 7, 2023, because there was a presidential election scheduled for November 5, 2024, and more Americans blindly support Israel than oppose war crimes against Arabs. If he'd tried to defund them or block arms sales or refuse to defend Israel anymore, Trump would have immediately promised to undo all of it if elected, and Congress might have passed veto-proof bills with bipartisan support to undo it even before then. All Biden would have accomplished is costing his party a whole lot of pro-Israel votes, while still not earning the support of the pro-Palestinian groups. The psychopathy in America exists at a national level. You can't pin it all one one guy, not Biden, not even Trump. They're just symptoms.
Sad, but true. And the saddest part is that the largest block that "blindly supports Israel" is the Evangelicals, who claim to be disciples of Jesus. Jesus would have disapproved thoroughly of the various war crimes committed against Arabs. (As well as the war crimes committed against Israel, of course. There is no way to justify the October 7 terrorist attack, and Israel's excessive reaction since then, though totally unjustified, does not in any way mitigate or validate what Hamas did.) Yep.
Your regular reminder that @14thDoctor supported the worst war crimes as they were happening, and advocated for others.
What you described as being Genocide Joe's motivation(s) is the most absolutely vile thing I've seen today. How is "there's an election coming up" *EVER* a reason to support a genocide? On what insane asylum of a planet is that even remotely considered a plausible excuse for fingering one's arse while women and children are murdered and starved? When the president has the power to do something and doesn't, *ESPECIALLY* for self-serving political reasons, I can most definitely pin it on that one dude. Every. Fucking. Time.
Can you fucking read? My point was that he didn't have the power, due to the upcoming election, Trump's relationship with Netanyahu, and general attitudes of both Congress and the American people towards Israel and Gaza. Politics is a chess game, and in this instance Biden was completely outmaneuvered before he even started. He didn't have any moves he could make without immediately losing and accomplishing nothing. You might as well call yourself Genocide Whatever because you haven't quit your job and set yourself on fire to protest the things you claim to oppose. Why aren't you using your power, you illiterate fuck?
Yes. I can also reason and deduce and extrapolate and recognize reality even if (feebly) hidden behind the flimsiest fucking joke of a cope it's ever been the internet's misfortune to host. Genocide Joe (and now Trump) absolutely could do something and repeatedly mewling "but teh political repercussions! Wah!" doesn't exonerate them. Anyone who *isn't* a psychopath would do the right thing and let the political chips fall where they may. That's the honorable course. The moral course. The sane course. "But I might lose muh joooob! Wah!" isn't an excuse. It's yet another abomination tossed atop the already mountainous pile. <spit>
Neither Biden nor trump, nor any other politician since the '90s has been constrained by the constitution. They are all doing everything the populace will allow them to get away with. and right now, trump's followers are allowing him to do everything they fear 'liberals' will do. they're so fucking stupid.
Which is why you keep overlooking the fact that it wouldn't even work if he'd tried, right? Trump, on the other hand, might be able to pull it off today if he wanted to, because congressional Republicans are too scared to oppose him, and he doesn't have any credible opponents for '28 to make anything of it yet. But he doesn't want to.
Yup, been ignoring him ever since as it made clear we such fundamentally different baselines of what is acceptable that there was nothing to be learned by engaging with him any more.
US and Iran saying there is a deal, notably haven't seen any statements including Israel so good chance they lob a few attacks at Lebanon to fuck it up. Iranian Media reporting these points, although neither side have officially confirmed yet: https://www.bbc.com/news/live/cj0grpyg4v1t?post=asset:179344af-d486-4e3a-8416-2b02fb06d89f#post
I find it strange and perhaps unwise that Iran signed this after the IDF bombed Beirut yesterday. But if the US and Israel uphold its terms, it is great news, not least because its a historic slap in the face to imperialist bullying.
Anyone else think this was engineered just to give Trump another "win" on his birthday and it'll be abandoned in a week or less?
I think it's very likely the zionists will bomb Beirut again, Iran will respond, and we'll be off to the races once more. The only way this or any other deal doesn't get fucked up by the zionists is if the Trump regime refuses to get involved after Iran is provoked into retaliating against "israel". Given the Trump regime's actions so far and the fact that even congress is trying to permanently enmesh the IOF with our own military I seriously doubt the USA will just sit back and watch "israel" get what it deserves.
Not to jump on a bandwagon here, but, I am sorely reminded that he did defend France's decision to not allow the extradition of Polanski after his conviction of molesting a child.
Israel officially saying this doesn't change anything for them and won't step them attacking Iran. So either the likely scenario where they attack Iran again and the deal collapses, or there's the remote (admittedly extremely small) possibility that they do that, Trump is pissed at them for undermining him and cuts them loose.
In any case, anyone who actually believes this will put an end to the Israel-Lebanon-USA-Iran conflicts is either unrealistically optimistic or hopelessly naive. Whatever this "deal" is, it probably won't last long enough to be officially signed.
There's a rumour going around that the reason Iran didn't fire back a couple of days ago after Beirut was bombed (and they were close to doing it) is because Trump intervened and added a concession to the deal specifying that where Israel violates its terms, Iran could hit them and the US won't interfere. Not sure what that looks like given the degree of integration between the two, but it's certainly possible that this will end up being a "seperate peace".
Here is the instrument of surrender. I'm hearing that signing will take place in a railway carriage on the French border.
I saw that. It means that the USA gets nothing from the war in Iran, except a huge debt to repair their mess. The only Iranian concessions are that they will stop doing things that they only started doing because the USA attacked, and they promise once again (hardly a new concession) that they aren't after nuclear weapons. (Whether or not that is true is a moot point; I don't trust the Iranians any more than I trust the governments of Israel, the USA or Russia. But the point is that it is only what they already "agreed to" before.) Trump thinks the American people are so stupid and gullible that he can pass off this almost total capitulation as a great victory, far better than anything Obama managed. And the sad part is that, for about one-third of the American people, he is right.
That point about maintaining the status quo of their nuclear program seems extremely vague. I expect there will be a lot of dispute on what that is with the US saying it's no activity and Iran saying it's nuclear power plants.
