Reasonable people figured out "perfect is the enemy of good" in 1770, but there are still plenty of smug assholes (mostly on the left) that refuse to accept this basic universal constant, and the rest of us have to suffer for their hubris. :dayton:

Our Government is broken, possibly irrevocably. Low IQ people, influence peddling and a lack of term limits has created gridlock, and graft. Voting is meaningless. The tax money taken from our paychecks isn't benefitting us as it should. Our National Treasure is being pissed away on vanity projects, and meaningless InstaWars. The levers of power are held by vapid morons. What can be done? :bailey:

First past the post voting with public polling guarantees only two viable candidates (and with just a couple more conditions we meet, two viable parties). I’ve posted about this a few times before. The TLDR version is that game theory makes the two party outcome essentially inevitable with our current systems. The only way to change it is to either change the voting system or ban reporting public polling results. The latter would violate freedom of speech and press principles, so we should fix the former instead. Ranked choice is a slight improvement, approval is better still, and STV for legislative elections and score or STAR voting for executive offices would be best (I’m 90% sure… it’s possible approval voting for executive offices is better for nonobvious reasons).

the republicans to me have 'laid bare' their feelings about this country in the past few years, it has become clear to me that only certain 'types' of people are American and deserve to be treated as such. the Democrats are no 'savior' but with all of their faults they do not try to rip this country apart and demonize entire groups of people. with the things that the 'occupant' has actually done and CONVICTED of and the things that the 'occupant' is suspected of it has become clear that there is no limit to the desire for absolute power and no limit as to how low they will stoop to gain that power. if you have to side with a conviceted criminal and possible pedophile to get what you want maybe you should evaluate what you are after if this is the path to it you have chosen

Tech-bro-friendly Dems like Gavin Newsome are more than happy to throw trans people under the bus though.
They code it as "needing to let go of unpopular social issues".
Even though Mamdani won on equal rights for everybody.
The corporate Dems all need to go.

As everyone knew they would, "israel" has continuously thrown bomb-shaped wrenches into the works via Lebanon.

    Words are wind.
Until this or any other 'Murican regime makes it clear the zionists will have to go fight their own battles there will never be peace in the middle east.

JD Vance is such a retard. He seems like the type that needs help with his "Night Time Routine " every night, a single digit IQ crayon eating Man Child. These are the people in power. The thought that such a huge number of Americans support these people is........ Repulsive. There are far too many dumbass people in this country, it's frankly embarrassing. The collective intelligence of the US is swirling the drain.

Between Bibi's bloodlust (and that of a few others like Graham) and Trump's inability to STFU and stop trying to wave his limp dick, this thing is nowhere near an end.

the problem with the common conception of "lesser of two evils" is that it lets "evil" do all the work.

In reality, while some men make evil choices unintentionally or via a broken worldview, actual god-damn fucking EVIL is actually pretty rare in U.S. politics. There's a lot of BAD (basically any segregationist, for example, of which there were many) but EVIL is a thing unto itself. I'm not sure even Trump is evil, except as a natural unconscious talent (the sort of thing that makes a grown man walk into a changing room full of half dressed teen girls) but I'm willing to concede that even instinctual, predatory behavior can and should be defined as evil - but even that is some lesser grade of EVIL than the choice to order the deaths of thousands if not millions. Stalin was EVIL. Hitler, Mao. I'd suggest Elon Musk, if for nothing else than killing USAID, is THAT kind of evil. Stephen Miller is to all appearances evil. Russell Vought. Peter Thiel. What makes Trump so bad is that he's a multiplier for evil men that are drawn into his orbit.

In that context, we're basically never choosing the "lesser of two evils" - we're choosing "the lesser of two unsatisfactories"

If on some rare occasion - like Trump - actual evil appears, the opposition is never on that level. I've only ever voted for someone I was actually satisfied with for president three times in my life (4 if you count putting up with Bob Dole to get Jack Kemp) and in almost every case (Elizabeth Warren pending) I ended up being dissatisfied with the person eventually. By any reasonable standard, Harris (whom I put up with, not enthusiastically supported - as I had with Biden) was nowhere NEAR "evil"

If your argument is "the lesser of two unacceptables" - well, no one can dictate to another what constitutes "unacceptable" to them. But invoking the word "evil" changes the discussion.

Exactly. (Even though the expression is and always will be "lesser of two evils"; we have a slightly better way of putting it in French: "le moindre mal", meaning "the less bad".) But with Trump, as you say, we have someone who actually is evil, and who has empowered large numbers of people who actually are evil.

That's why I have no patience with anyone who considers Trump and Harris to be equally bad.
