Okay, in another thread I explained how my wife is temporarily in a mental health facility. Cell phones are not allowed, so I have her phone at home. Her caseworker is going to call me this week with important information. The caseworker can't call me on my cell phone because I don't know how to set up voice-mail and I can't find the manual. :(

That said the caseworker can call me on my wife's phone which I can carry with me. My wife does have voice-mail set up. I tested it out by ringing her phone with my phone and leaving a test message. I can see on the list (on her phone of course) my name listed and the time of the call. But it does not list the phone number that called. But how do I play that message back? If her caseworker calls me on her phone, the name or number will not be listed because her caseworker is not in her listing.

I cannot find the manual for her phone. I tried googling the ATT&T LG-B470 guide but you have to be registered and user name and all that bullshit. Any thoughts?

Looked up images of the LG-B470, here's what I found.

Did you try the [1] key, it has an image of the voicemail icon on it. That should go to the voicemail. If not, try dialing your wife's phone number from her phone. That works on my personal cell which is with AT&T, and also works with my work cell which is with Verizon.

Whoa - that is a pretty old school phone. Can you dial *86 send and get voicemails that way?

The manual can be found here. It's not the AT&T one, but that shouldn't matter in this case, as voice mail's usually standard across all carriers in how it works. In skimming the manual, I don't really see anything about voicemail. However, on most phones, you should see a symbol which looks like o_o on one of the keys. If you press and hold that, it should automatically go to your voicemail box. Now, the issue which you may have, is if the voicemail box has a PIN code. This is a 4 digit code that you would have to manually enter to check your voicemail. It's possible your wife has the phone set up to bypass this, but she might not have. If she hasn't, then you're boned. You can make a couple of attempts at entering numbers, but any more than a few wrong guesses and they'll lock the account, and it'll take your wife calling AT&T to get it unlocked.

okay I hit the button with the picture of a guy talking on ed629 post #2 and now my phone keeps saying "palm screen.....palm screen" in a loud female voice every time I open up the phone and I can't turn it off. WTF is a "palm screen?" :shakefist:
Then I hit the 1 key and it lists my voice-mails but won't play the recording I left. Oh and I think it asks for a password. :shakefist: Fuck this - I'm going to call her caseworker and leave a message saying don't call my wife's phone, I can't figure out the voice-mail function, just call my phone. I will check for missed calls every 10 minutes all day so if I return her calls, she's likely to still be there.
I might take a stab at figuring out the voice-mail on my own Verizon phone before I go to bed in a minute.

I didn't mean for you to hit the guy talking, I meant for you to use the [1] key, hold it down for a 2-3 seconds, or just dial her phone number from her phone.

The guy talking converts text to speech however.

oh I see in the picture of your phone it had a big blue "close up" circle of the guy talking icon. I assumed then this was significant. Regardless, I'm giving up on voice-mail until I can find someone to show me how and of course I'll have to write it down. Then I'll lost track of what I wrote down. I guess this is why (as Weird Al put it in "Amish Paradise") I am "technologically impaired".

It's embarrassing having to be shown how to do the most basic things and to be shown over & over because I am such an incredibly slow learner. :( I get caught in that circle and after a while I get further & further behind in all the constantly changing & complex (to me) technology. That's why no GPS, smart phone (I can't handle flip phones!) programmable coffee pots, or those things you wear while exercising that people keep messing with instead of actually exercising. :garamet:
