Still trying to figure out how she goes to the wrong apartment. Was she a new tenant? Was the victims apartment number EXACTLY the same as the cops? Ive never lived in an apartment where the numbers are the same on different levels. And how do you go to the wrong floor?

Her explanation is given in one of the linked articles.

It still doesn’t justify her getting shooty so quickly, though.

Why are off duty cops allowed to carry their weapons to their private residence anyway?

Found it. So with her being a recent arrival to the complex, she should have made sure that she was at the right place. The apartment number was right there for her to see. But instead she entered the apartment(this is why I ALWAYS lock my door) , sees someone there and fires without properly identifying herself or him.

I have no sympathy for her. Lock her up.

I'm pretty certain military personnel aren't allowed to carry a machine gun back to their quarters on or off base.

It could be (totally guessing and I'm sure Elwood can weigh in here) that since they do indeed have "powers-of-arrest" even when they are off-duty, they are allowed to carry their guns to facilitate carrying out their duties if they do have to respond to any situation. Or it could be that because cops are often targeted for various reasons they are entitled to carry the guns for basic self defense.

yeah, they are pretty picky about that. :brood: Something about safety or accountability from what I remember.

anyway about the cop's story: to be honest I have been inattentive at times whether through fatigue or complacency or just plain "spacing out" and have started to get into cars that looked a lot like mine, turned into the wrong driveway because the neighbor's cars or houses looked just like mine, and even walked into the wrong room in a barracks where every door on every floor is the same and I didn't notice what floor I was on. Generally though it only took a second or two to notice my mistake. I'm trying to imagine myself in her position: if I thought I was in my own home and heard somebody inside as I entered I would immediately retreat to safety which in this case would mean exit the home via the door you just came through (duh) and try to get some distance and/or get behind some cover or concealment and prepare to return fire (assuming I was armed) if necessary. But that's just my training kicking in - I don't know how cops are trained to respond, but I'm guessing not in the way she did.

Cops aren't military personnel and service pistols aren't machine guns.

How many other ways can you make your analogy completely unlike the thing you are trying to compare?

Formula One race car drivers aren't allowed to drive their Formula One race cars to the mall either. And that has as much to do with cops being armed while off-duty as your analogy.

Could be several reasons - some legit, some just CYA. But under the cover of "can't compromise the ongoing investigation" you need to be a fly on the wall to ever really know. Obviously this fuels mistrust & rampant speculation at every level, which is par for the course in nearly every major crime story since the beginning of time.

It's fucking despicable that the police department is attempting to either justify the shooting or smear the victim by releasing the details of the marijuana found in his apartment. What other motive could there be for releasing that information?

This cop is solely to blame for this homicide, and I hope she gets locked up for either manslaughter or murder. But the way the police department is treating this killing makes me doubt she'll face any punishment.

It’s public record and police search every crime scene like that.

Blame the press in this case for publishing/broadcasting facts irrelevant to the story. The Fox station in Dallas, in particular, is getting lambasted by many and rightfully so due to the headline they used for the story. They’re an O&O, BTW.

PD found pot in the victim’s residence. Who gives a fuck? It has no bearing on the fact that the guy was killed while minding his own business.

Drugs give racists an out. I mean, not like the hardcore ones need one for themselves, but the casual ones do. They have to justify their irrational hatred of a man they don't know by waiting for any indication he wasn't perfect. The police almost always provide, too, even if it's something as inane as a traffic ticket, or a citation for skipping school.

Which is why I mentioned that the local Fox affiliate also happens to be an O&O. Not saying that influenced their coverage, but then again...:?:

    Absolutely.

It's infuritating that the search results of his apartment were published.

    Who cares?

There's literally nothing they could've found that would've justified that cunt police officer shooting and killing the guy.

I think he is getting plenty of respect in that the fuck up who killed him will probably spend decades in jail for being a complete fuck up.

Media reporting on his criminal misconduct won't change that and is just the media doing its job. I am confident the jury will weight it as little as it is called for. Stop pretending everything is a conspiracy because you sound like a Trumpanzee. I swear to god, left or right, you extemists are still nothing but extremists.

He could've had a meth lab in there, and it wouldn't change the fact that he was shot and killed for no good reason.
