Speaking from personal experience, while a face shield such as that is better than nothing, she'd do well to add safety goggles to the mix. Ages ago, when I worked at a foundry, I wore an identical face shield as her, and I discovered the hard way that it will only reduce, not eliminate the chance of something getting in your eye. I was using a belt sander to grind a part, when something flew off the sander and hit me in the eye. I had to go to the hospital to get the thing removed, even though it didn't do any damage to my eye. It just sat there and hurt me. After that, I always wore a face shield and eye goggles when I was running a grinder. I spent 8+ hours a day in such a setup, and I didn't care how goofy I looked. The fact that I never got anything else in my eye was worth it.

I think safety goggles might increase chances of infection. That garb has to be removed before leaving the room of an infected patient. handling something like that which touches areas around the eyes would be problematic.

Power tools in the OR are more of a concern. They probably use more goggles there.

We're getting our Gov'ment Potatoes today.

Well, not us, but one of the local food banks is borrowing my truck to go pick up a load at the County potato drop.

Seems like it would be fair to repay the borrowing by accidentally leaving a couple of pounds behind.

I had to go to the dentist today after I lost a filling:

    1. Despite the fact we haven't had any community transmission here for the months, I was super self conscious of the dentists drill spraying my saliva everywhere.

    2. After asking me what I'd been doing beforehand I said "Eating dinner, soup, oh and we had a few corn chips later in the evening" to which she replied "Yeah that will do it". What the hell is going on with corn chips that they're an unsurprising precursor to a tooth falling apart!?!?

Found out just now that one of my cousins has the virus.

He's not the most healthy guy (very overweight) so I'm a little worried about him. :garamet:

My former boss who retired in January lost his mother to the virus yesterday.

I'm not sure how old she was, but my ex-supervisor is 66 so his mom was probably in her mid-80s or older. :(

Holy shit things just got weird.

I ended up driving my grandmother by the arcade to see if it was open and jackpot for her they opened back up. I was a little nervous about going in because of my own health, but they did some construction to put up some physical barriers and cleaning impleents for the players. They put in some more lights and a a new air filtration system like they had in NY to suck up smoke from smoking sections back in the day. The machines were all cleaned and the help cleaned them. They were enforcing spacing and mask wearing. My grandmother was really happy because that is her entertainment thing, and now it is open again. I have talked with her and she understands the risks and that is one of the things that makes her "happy." I can get back to taking her down there and out to lunch at golden coral like she was enjoying before everything shut down. One grandparent living their life the way they want to.

The other living grandparent is getting busted out of lockdown. His assisted living community has shut down everything and has locked them up in their rooms. I got more contact when I was in prison 3 hours away from my family because of how they have made things. It is not their fault as they have to do this to keep their community safe. Since most of the reasons to pay so much money for assisted living are suspended and probably wont be back for at least 6 months things were discussed with him and me and we are going to be moving in together into a local 55+ condo community. I am not 55, but they bend the rules in these cases, and I am not a party person so no one will care.

So I am going to take care of him and drive him around, cook his food, and live in the condo while his benefits pay the mortgage. This will actually be cheaper, and I think he is at the point he realizes being alone and independent is not what he wants. He actually lit up at the idea because I think he would be comfortable with a family member living with him. I am pretty sure the dementia has taken away most of his old archie bunker argumentation. That is my only real fear is he starts going all trump and making arguments. Otherwise, he just watches his TV and wants to go swimming and for his walks. He does not need the cleaning people coming in all the time. He does need healthy meals cooked, but he is not that fussy.

I have been wondering why we pay for other people to take care of him for a time now. He needs someone to look out for him, and he is not overly social anymore. It was one thing when the place he was in had all the activities he could do, but it is just depressing him to be there now, and he is fine with the dangers of getting infected. It is quality vs quantity. Whereas once assisted living gave him much more freedom to live, now it is lockdown and a jail.

The only problem I see coming is my grandmother on the other side is going to be pissed that he gets all the attention. What it really comes down to is she is way to controlling and prying into everything where he is just going to do his TV thing. He may be more work and crazy, but she would never give me a moment's peace if she were to live there too. But she can't hate me because she has pissed everyone else in the family off. The parents have assured me that they will cover some time for conventions, and I am also going to get paid for this as he has good military health care which will pay a live in relative who does the care work.

Even better part about it is I have been trying to get a place to do a podcast and the area we are looking has a washroom type thing that I can soundproof and set up as a small studio.

One of the guys that I work with (I'll call J), his roommate was diagnosed with Covid-19 on Friday. He had to go get tested, I haven't had real close personal contact with him, but I did have some contact with him. One of the other guys that was working directly with him (I'll call him K) is now being quarantined from work. If J tests positive, then both J and K will need to be quarantined, and any of us who had contact with J or K will probably need to get tested too. So hoping that J and K both come back negative.

Had an outdoor service today, out in the field behind church. Maybe 40 people showed up, everyone kept their distances, although only maybe half either wore masks or stayed in their vehicles. No congregational singing. Nice, sunny weather without being hot. It was pretty nice and I felt safe.

Found out tonight that the elderly mother of one of my coworkers has died from the virus. She had been in that nursing home that had to evacuate back in April, and contracted the disease at some point, before dying from it this past week.

As of today, masks are mandatory, with fines for non-compliance, in any enclosed public space in France. (IOW, indoors, no matter how big the place is, other than private homes.)

My teeth are .. have previously had so many issues, this year when my 6 month check up came due, instead of telling me to wait six months or a year, I was treated as if it was an emergency and had my check up.

I was told to come to the back door and quietly slipped inside, they took my temperature and made me sign a paper ...

No cavities or anything major. Just previous issues deemed me one of those lucky few who was "allowed" to visit the dentist.

I told them everything is fine, it's ok. I don't need to come in.

I'm the kind of person who gets the gas just for a cleaning.

    I fucking hate the dentist.

Maybe if you hammer the Amazon item search with "mOuNtAiN bIkE tUbE" like a fucking toe-headed mongoloid angling to score a snarky jab, but I'm guessing we don't live at the same address. I think I would have noticed. It also varies greatly depending on the specifics of the item. Size/valve/manufacturer/price, like a grownup making a goddamn purchase with his own money.
