This has to be bullshit. Orange man gone! Joe Biden (peas be upon him) is HMIC now. I could see a rise in crime in 2021 up until 20 January, but since then why/how can we have a rise in many major cities? CNN is claiming this, so it's not like Fox News boo! hiss! is spreading their anti-woke lies racist lies. Any thoughts? In Chicago, homicides are up 33% in the first three months of the year compared to 2020, while shootings are up nearly 40% for the same period year-over-year. In New York City, the NYPD data shows murders jumped by nearly 14% through March 28, the latest numbers the department has made public, while shootings were up nearly 50%. In Los Angeles, homicides have increased nearly 36% from 67 to 91 through March 30, LAPD Officer Rosario Cervantes told CNN. Those three cities -- the nation's largest -- all saw significant increases last year over 2019. The homicide uptick in the three cities comes as Chicago, Houston, and Memphis saw some of the largest surges in homicides last year, with an increase of 100 or more killings compared to 2019. Chicago had a single day with 18 homicides, the largest number for the city on record. Communities that had historically experienced a greater number of shootings and homicides were also hard hit by the pandemic. "We are constantly dealing with trauma in these inner cities and communities where violence is prevalent," said Ray Kelly. "The impact is especially severe on children who are continually exposed to violent crime from an early age." "Whenever we talk about violent crime," Cooper said, "it should be talked about in the context of the victims. When we're referring to an increase, it means there has also been an increase in victimization of community members." US crime rise not letting up in major cities - CNN
Who's complaining? I'm just asking a simple question. With president unity running things criminals should be beating their guns into farming implements, to paraphrase a bible saying. Where is the disconnect here? Oh and BTW there is an ammo shortage so all the shootings must be challenging. What's going on folks?
People are restless after being cooped up for a year. That and they haven't had a chance to use their 2020 model guns.
My brain and what? To have a disconnect you need two separate disconnected points, unless my six long years of high school were a big waste of time.
Wait! Joe Biden personally murdered all those people AND solved COVID? And I thought he couldn’t stay awake.
Federal Freshman doesn't generally take much stock in what I say. I have no problem with that - not all conservatives think alike.
Probably ain't as many non-police homicides going on when everyone's on lockdown to keep the Mexican Beer at bay, homes.
How many posts in do you think OF will whip out his copy of "The Bell Curve" and his phrenology bust and head measuring calipers?
sorry racist - race has nothing to do with it. I know it's one of your favorite cards to play, but it doesn't apply in this case.
BDS - have I blamed Biden? Not at all! That said I am a bit disappointed because I thought with all his executive orders he would have signed one that reduced homicides rather than increased them.
It really is striking how frigging desperate OF is to try to find things to club Biden with. From his own link: Any fair reading of this -- or reality -- would acknowledge that there's a limit as to what a president can or can't do about violent crime. In fact, in all the various criticisms of Trump that have come up, I don't remember anyone criticizing him for not doing more to stem violent crime. (Criticisms for making like he actually endorses police misconduct or at best being too indifferent towards police misconduct, yes. Overhyping crimes committed by immigrants, sure. Motivating people to commit certain crimes, or wrongly silent when they do, of course. But blaming Trump for the rises in violent crime broadly, haven't seen it.)
In an area where the POTUS has very limited capacity. It'd be like measuring your IQ against a three-week old bagel.
To take the question seriously, the uptick is almost certainly COVID related. Economy took a major hit, lockdown orders, social distancing, entertainment venues severely restricted . . . People get stressed and angry and hilarity ensues.
Right, and as Raoul said, clearly the trend started before Biden was POTUS. Anyone with the intelligence above the average rutabaga would understand this. Hence, this thread. It does explain conservatism pretty well though. When you don't understand anything, then everything must be pretty scary. It's like talking to a dog or a five year old - that is allowed to vote and carry semi-automatic weaponry.
Again, it must be interesting to tilt against all these straw men of your own creation. Not even the biggest Biden fan here or anywhere has suggested that Trump was bad in terms of preventing crime or that Biden would be better in this area. Even assuming for argument's sake someone might have, no reasonable person could think Biden would in three months have everything turned around with crime, given that he had a few bigger fish to fiy and executive orders have limitations.
Stop attacking @oldfella1962 when it is clearly proven there is an uptick in criminal activity according to republican laws. Think of all those asians who are now against the law for being asian and spreading the china flu. We have black people voting while black. We have Joe Biden for winning a fair election. All those women having WAP are new. Wearing masks in public. The pizza parlor sex trade is illegal, but sex trafficking by gaetz is perfectly legal. Things that do not contribute to an increase in crime are white republican terrorism being persecuted. Assaulting asians. Cops killing those pesky blacks. Karens who are arrested for not wearing their masks. sex tyrafficking by republican members of congress. Mass shootings by whitey McChinbeard. Capitol insurrection. Killing cops in the capitol by white republican traitors. Voter fraud by republicans.
