Dayton's Next Move

Given that his pattern shows two dimensional thinking, when he starts to realize that the Red Room can function just fine without him, he'll probably start acting out in the other forums. Trying to get other posters to jab back at him so he can whine about it.

Probably the best thing for us to do when that happens is to NOT smack him down as soon as he makes one of those posts, but drop a polite hint, either in the thread or via PM to any poster who responds to it to ignore further posts by him in that thread. I doubt if we can change his behavior by doing this, but we can deprive him of the attention he so desperately wants.

I feel like I am missing some context here. Was Dayton banned from the RR or something?

He ragequit the Red Room until like July or so. He seems to think that we'll be lost without him or something.

I told him to knock it off and to go back to the Red Room if he wanted to continue the behavior but, nevertheless, he persisted.

Dayton has PM'ed me with a response to a post of mine.

Ah, he's now PMing in response to shots I've directed to him in the Red Room. So while I can't disclose his comments via PM, I can post part of my reply to him.

Did I miss something? Why would his rep ability be removed, since his absence from the Red Room was self-imposed rather than a ban?

Ok. Essentially what it comes down to is Dayton trying to have his cake and eat it too.
Had he not said anything and just ceased commenting and repping only, while some of us would have noticed, it wouldn't have generated the pushback from the others, particularly his detractors.
While I doubt anyone wants to defend him, his rep only method of engagement was allowing others to essentially put words in his mouth ("he's into incest, and we know this because he hasn't denied it...!"), and while he was in a sense inviting that nonsense on himself, I don't relish that crap becoming a meme like Pedo Ray, nor do we as a board need potential attention from outside agencies should in-board politik somehow flag their curiosity.
Regarding my threat to pull his rep privilege: The unfortunate and undesired side affect is that that is boardwide. Given a choice, I'd pull it only from the Red Room, allowing him to rep to his heart's content elsewhere. I hope we don't have another situation where that would be needed, but it may be worth looking into if that is a possibility. Since he declared his intent to withdraw from the Red Room until July, engaging in rep defeats the purpose of the exercise, and his disagreements without explanation were doing little to help his cause. Again, not that he needs nor deserves defending, the posts he was disagreeing to were painting an ugly picture of him.

I think you might be giving him what he wants the most, attention. I found his "Jamie Whistler-ing" amusingly impotent. Hell, Rep doesn't mean shit, anymore.

I mean thanks for typing that all up but Dayton is a grown ass man and live with his own consequences. By stepping in all you did was create drama AND make the RR worse for everyone by bringing Dayton back earlier.

Why pull it from the Red Room? He wasn't banned. And people who decide to withdraw for a while are free to return anytime they want.

It's not our job to enforce the exercise. If he wants to stay away, he can stay away; if he wants to come back, he can come back.

I was going to suggest the same thing because if I mentioned that you'd already discussed it with Dayton that would be seen as revealing PM information.

Plus, pointing that out would show that he started the thread just to be a shit since you'd already had the conversation with him.
