Interesting move. Musk is a savvy businessman. I don't see him making a move this big without expecting that he'll somehow make money on the deal.

While this and other actions he might take in the service of "free speech", I'm more concerned about the further concentration of media control.

There is a paradox with social media. The argument can be made that content moderation doesn't infringe free speech because it's a private platform. But when there are a small number of such platforms and a small number of individuals controlling them, the effect is the same.

I think any one voice having too much control over a method of communication is prone to problems.

It's easy to dismiss, but has there ever been a time when interpersonal communications have had such reliance on a single companies policies? Even family groups now often have shared FB Messenger or Whatsapp groups for basic information sharing.

There should be pushes for these to be effectively opened up and not subject to any one companies whims or viability in the same way that different postal networks can interact, or telephone networks are run based on open protocols.
