That was a private discussion over a chat room between moderators at TrekBBS about TrekBBS business.

Basically, when Flashlight got ahold of a copy of that private discussion, that is what he did with it.

Now, personally I am glad he did it. It's one of the events that led to the creation of Wordforge...but it does also illustrate he is capable of sharing such info.

Not necessarily a reason to disqualify him, but it is one of the only reasons that give me pause and would inspire me to perhaps keep a closer eye on him...like I'm sure many do me. I do have lines I won't cross, as many people here know. I'm just not sure where Flashlight's lines are...know what I mean?

Indeed. Who's to say he wouldn't have done the same thing if the conversation had been more mundane or contained personal information. A whistle-blower or watchdog is one thing... but we already have observers for that.

You called someone out in the open forum, alluding to personal information, alluding to Shelter information, and without the consent of both parties involved, IIRC. Kicked off a "drama" that had both posters run off for a while, and with one feeling he needed a name change.

Personally I can't believe you can keep a straight face when you get so worried about Flashlight possibly releasing board secrets. Heck, we've never seen a picture, don't know his name, on the surface Flashlight appears to value privacy than alot of board members. He's known personal info about me for years and has never given me reason to worry.

I think what flow's trying to say is that we've all done worse, and that we're judging Flashie a bit unfairly.

Storm and Jeriko were more stable than Flashy would be, IMO.

But given the standards you've set up for Flashlight, do you trust Tamar?

It's called seperating my personal feelings from my duty as an Admin around here.

My personal feeling is: So fucking what. Nothing on the internet is safe or truly private and people act like little crybabies over things that aren't important or their own damn fault for putting it out there in cyberspace.

As an Admin, I must recognize that the majority here do not agree with me and the stance I take must be for the good of the board and representative of the percieved safest course...not necessarily lining up with my own personal beliefs. Maybe that makes me look like a hypocrite...but I don't give a damn. Frankly, if It had been me in charge, I might not have hired myself unless I knew me very well. (And you should probably fear if that made any sense to you )

And the fact of the matter is, he has posted transcripts...not allusions or hints...actual transcripts of that sort of information before. But it was a long time ago, that is why my position on Flashlight is sure, let's give him a shot...but let's also be careful and keep a bit of an eye on him.

We've all done worse? Speak for yourself, the worst I've done is given a debatable warning for flaming when it should have been a warning for trolling or a friendly, though those didn't exist at the time.

I do. Regrettably. I don't want to. I'd rather know she won't do anything untoward, and Elwood's confidence in her is a good reassurance. But yes, I have to trust her. But my confidence, based on Elwood's, is high. The same cannot be said for my confidence in Flashlight.

(the moral of the above is, "confidence is not the same thing as trust", in case anyone missed it, and my reasons for having low confidence in Flashlight are spelt out throughout the rest of this thread)

It's not so much that I DON'T trust Flashlight, it's that I don't want to have to. I don't trust my computer not to send all my data to the .gov, I know it's not sending all my data to the .gov. See the analogy?

If he couldn't handle O2C posting that old link and has issue with "people having no right to judge him", how will he handle the more difficult aspects of Modship?

As a controversial choice, he will be more likely to get a baptism by fire than a choice like Mrs A. How will he handle it when the inevitable happens to him?

Well Nick wanted to ban Zodiac last week for nothing more than buggin him.

It just cracks me up that some of his most vocal critics are mod/admins that can be some of the most emotional, petty, and dramatic people on the board.

And as a reminder Elwood, I still want out as Red Room mod, and I'm pretty sure I want out of [-]Eliteforge[/-] The Shelter too.

He sometimes displays a know-it-all's condescension about media matters which can be off-putting.
