Shootout involving the FBI in Sunrise, Florida. Two agents killed, three more wounded. Story.

Looks like some kind of child abuse thing? Anyway, the perp decided a shootout with the FBI was a good idea.

Sounds like he should have done something a little less dangerous like being a white supremacist radical terrorist bring a gun with him to raid the capitol and kill congresscritters. Then they would have let him get away and maybe used his social media to politely arrest him and ask him to come with them so they can charge him with some low end penalties. Of course, if it was a right wing karen they would just elect them to the house and be done with it.

Steve’s hatred of Twitter appears to be akin to that of Dayton’s hatred of Trump. You know, there’s really no difference but because of something minor, he feels could compelled to bitch. Of course, when it comes to doing or saying something substantive about why, well, it all turns into weird flapping about the subject, followed by overly aggressive fellaticating of the same things that they claim to be opposed to.

I was skeptical of the Twitter interface when the board changed software several years ago, but it's a great feature IMHO.

In general, posting a tweet gives you the basics of the story. If you want to know more, click it and it'll take you to Twitter where the majority of the time there's a link to the original article.

It saves time by eliminating the necessity of copying a headline, pasting it here, going back to the source, copying the link, then coming back here to paste the link in the headline. I still do that from time to time, but posting a tweet allows the reader to find out as much or as little about the subject as they want.

Ayup. Additionally, thanks to Twitter I can have easy access to foreign news sources that don’t show up in any of the most popular news apps for phones.

And, this is a biggie for me, I can interact with important folks I’d never be able to otherwise. I don’t just mean some celebrity posts something that I then like, I mean I get to follow scientists as they publicly debate a topic. I can see their comments, reply to them, and they’ll respond. That’s a big fucking deal to me. Hell, it should be to anyone. I mean, why wouldn’t you want to be able to ask an expert in a field and have them respond to you? It doesn’t matter if they call you an idiot or they say you’re right. You now know more than you once did, and that’s pretty cool.

That almost works until we consider the ratio of intelligent facts vs crazy lies and conspiracy theories on Twitter. Needle in a haystack does not even cover it.

Twitter is what you make it. If you follow people who fabricate shit and spread bullshit, then that's what you'll get. If you follow reputable sources and fact checked topics, then the clutter is minimized.

I spent way too long digging through usenet for decent things to go to a bigger cesspool. Also, it seems that for the person who does not want to dig around twitter for "gold" in the poo, we have people who do it for us. Then we just have to dig through that little bit of poo covered offerings to find gems.

Something I have found. The best way to filter the internet is to coordinate your human media filters to bring you the good stuff you want. It does create a sort of bubble, I will admit, but it keeps the noise down. I have come to realize if I miss some things It is not the end of the world as long as I have things I enjoy.
