Time for a fresh thread. Show begins on July 16.

We see Daenerys at the map-table on Dragonstone, plotting the conquest of the mainland, just as her ancestor did three centuries earlier.

At 0:58, we see the Red Woman onlooking some people crossing a wall or dam of sorts. Any idea where this location could be?

We see Grey Worm removing his shirt, like he's about to have sex. Are he and Missandei finally gonna get it on?

But what I am most excited for is an explanation for this poster (assuming it's real):

I'm absolutely, 100 percent convinced that GoT has a major twist at its end. Something GRRM has been planning from the beginning. I mean, he's a trickster. He's also a scifi-writer. And if you read some hints the 'right' way, you could already construct a Planet-of-the-Apes-like scenario. Like superlong winter - nuclear winter. And stuff. Also, symbols from his earlier scifi work keep turning up. Reference, coincidence? Weird glitches, too.

Anyway. I do wonder, since the books probably won't finish before or at the same time as the series, how will they do it? Spoil it? Change it? Drop it? Or could there be another surprise, as in, the final two books dropping a day before the series finale in 2018?

Really, GRRM is one of those guys I wouldn't be surprised seeing trolling millions and laughing all the way. Go George! Just don't make it a PotA ripoff. Come up with something original, thanks.

If the poster portends a real plot, and not something that just catches the eye, I suspect either:
    • Cersei will find a way to kill a dragon, probably via her alchemist. And like every move Cersei makes, it'll not end well as the Night King will raise it as a wight;
    • Or the Night King has power over dragons and will turn them against Daenerys and co.
If the latter, that'll then place Cersei as the eventual hero of the series (if want to talk about plot armour, she's got some) which would cause some ruckus - imagine all the people who've decided Jon and Daenerys will rule, and instead it ends up with Cersei and Littlefinger sharing the throne?

That theory holds a little water as Cersei has shown a willingness to do anything, and the wiles to find the weapons she needs, meanwhile Littlefinger - unlike Cersei - can plot without everything blowing up in his face. Exactly the kind of dream team you want to take down an implacable, almost un-killable enemy rather than the Angry Blonde and Emo Stark and their merry men.

This bullshit of waiting more than a year for a season to start has go to stop.

Game of Thrones is just one of the worst offenders. I can think of a few other shows on HBO and AMC that need a good kick in the arse.

GoT at least had a reasonable excuse: because it's now "winter" in that world they had to shift much more of their location shooting to winter months, which pushed back the production schedule.

But, yeah, the rest seem to do it just to amp up anticipation. :marathon:

So... what do you all think? This episode seemed to be a "chess piece moving" episode but still very entertaining. Loved the cold open scene with Arya at the Twins.

I love that the chandelier thing in the great maester library is the rotating spinny-thing from the opening credits. It even has the magnifying glasses.

Yea, that was a whole lot of 'where are they now'. Well they'll pick up the pace since it's only 6 more episodes left. Still thinking they should have done a 14-part 7th season and end it there. Waiting for yet another year for a measly seven episodes is really bad karma.

    Anyway, #teamarya

The best part of it was the first five minute then, as you said, the rest was just setting up future episodes.

Corrected to show that next season is even more measly than this one. :garamet:

Though it's very possible that the S8 episodes will be stretched to 80 minutes each or longer. Supposedly the S7 finale is 82 minutes.

    Both are wrong.

The one we saw at the end was neither of those. Jon knew to burn the bodies of any dead after the battle at the wall. It would be foolish for him to burn all those bodies except for that giant.

And the last one died in Winterfell so there is no way he could be north of the wall with the walking dead.

The White Walkers have a collection of the dead that go back hundreds if not thousands of years. The Wall itself is eight thousand years old according to the books. Not sure if that number has been mentioned in the show but the wall is old.

I was half expecting Melisandre to be waiting for Danaerys in the Dragonstone throne room. I'm not sure where else she would go, the Brotherhood already has a Light Priest.

Maybe Melisandre wasn't completely wrong? She just showed up at Dragonstone a few seasons too early. Maybe she was looking for Danaerys the whole time?

I expect we will see some full naval warfare soon. Euron's fleet is at King's Landing and the other fleet is parked at Dragonstone. If you look at a map of Westeros, those two places are very close together. The fleets almost missed each other (although the plot lines are all out of synch so who knows?)

So Jorah Mormont ended up in Oldtown? Interesting. He'll probably meet up with Sam and Gilly. And I assume they will discuss Shireen and how her disease was halted.

I think we saw pretty much all the remaining characters in this episode, other than Melisandre and everyone who was left behind across the Narrow Sea. We also didn't see Dany's new allies... Olenna, Yara, Theon, and Ellaria Sands. Though they all got a mention.

Everyone else is dead. And I don't expect they will be introducing any new major characters from here on out. We'll probably see some flashbacks of Rhaegar Targaryen at some point.

    Liked it.

Arya is quite the blood thirsty little girl now. Don't want to piss her off.

You could see her thinking about how she was going to kill those Lannister troops but than they showed her they were decent humans. Which really is out of character for Lannister troops. The last several seasons the ones given a close up have been nothing but assholes. Do like what she told them at the end and they had a good laugh. I wasn't expecting that.

Sandor Clegane. Man has his character really turned around. He's always been a likable character but I think he kicks it up a notch with the realization that he's had that he's been a bad guy for a long time.

Jorah at Oldtown. Makes sense since they are probably trying to cure the disease he has.

Sam doing the trainees work. And stealing books. That doctor he was talking to was quite confident that everything would be okay.

On a slightly serious note: I think the Maesters and their system is holding back the Seven Kingdoms. Eight thousand years since the wall was built and no progress in the sciences? I think them hoarding all this knowledge is actually holding everyone back. Including them.

Jon is a good leader. I want to smack Sansa for trying to sabotage him in front of the other houses. She's turning into a Cersi with the hatred burning her up. Especially when she tried to say Jon was being like Joeffery.

And I can not wait for that smug bastard Littlefinger to get what's due him. I hope it's a spectacular one.

But yeah things better kick into high-gear next episode.

I've never liked Sansa. My least favorite Stark. I expect I will like her even less as this season progresses.

It would be great if Littlefinger got torn up by Wights. It would make all his plots and machinations over his entire life completely meaningless.

Oh yeah... what the heck happened to Gendry? Does he even have a role in the story anymore?

The Baratheons are all dead and Dany will most likely recapture the Iron Throne.

He may still have some vague claim to the Throne but who would support him or believe him? Seems like a loose end. Or maybe he's just a plot device like Rickon Stark and not a real character.

You seem to be assuming that she isn't going to kill them all in their sleep anyway...or didn't already do it off-camera. I'm assuming that too, but I'm prepared to be shocked and appalled in the next week or two.

Gendry pops back up this season. In the tv show they merged about three of Robert's bastards together probably to avoid confusing viewers too much but in the books Gendry stayed with the Brotherhood without banners and becaming their blacksmith. He and an orphan girl have taken over running the crossroads inn (in the riverlands where Tyrion got captured by Katlin Stark in season one) after mercenary/Lannister forces killed the old inn keeper. The Brotherhood takes all the orphans there so Gendry and the chick (who really likes Gendry but he is keeping it just friends) watch over them.

I was hoping Arya made it back to Winterfell as she knows Little Finger betrayed Ned Stark to his death while Sansa knows she killed her aunt. I am betting little finger dies this season.

Those Lannister Troops were apparently real life rock stars or something so it was a cross promotional thing to fit in a famous rock band into a cameo.
