I got three out of four right! :D
Awesome, awesome, awesome. These are truly funny ladies. I think if this is handled right, the film will kick ass.

Has anything new and creative come out of Hollywood in the last two decades? Or is it all remakes of 70's and 80's classics with a few comic books thrown in for good measure?

    Fuck.

Horrible casting! So we get to see Melissa McCarthy play the same annoyingly crude and unfunny character she plays in every single movie she's in? I'm not sure who thinks Bridesmaids was funny but I'd wish they'd share the drugs they were taking while watching it. Wiig and McKinnon were only funny on SNL when they were doing impressions. Wiig has otherwise been very bland on screen so far.

    No thanks.

Yes, and no one (including a lot of WF) gives it a chance.

Honestly, once I started thinking about it, no one comes to mind. Maybe Anna Faris or Kat Dennings. I think a combined male and female cast would work better.

Well, there you go, nothing would have made you happy.
At least nothing under the concept they're using.

Excrement. Quite fitting, as it's also the opinion I have of McCarthy and Feig's collective talents.

I'm guessing the director cast the thing based on comedic talents, intentionally leaving "fuckability" out of it.

    Y'know, like the original.

At least she's probably not the lead? I'd imagine Wiig is Venkman.

I wasn't using "fuckability" as a guide. I was using actresses who actually make me laugh.

This is one of those films where I'm not going to look forward to it in case they fuck it up, but I will go to see hoping they haven't.

That said I really wasn't arsed about watching The Heat, yet when I did I was very surprised and entertained - the humour in it matched the kind you got in Ghostbusters - so this could work well.

Seriously. I found the original to be far overhyped, and I'm not sure what an all-female cast would add to a fairly simple story.

The stories for the first two (and they're really the same) are just skeletons for Bill Murray to throw snarky wisecracks onto.
Whomever is the Venkman had better bring it.
Also, they need something as surprising as the Marshmallow Man for the big punchline.

I think they're going for a fresh take, so while there will undoubtedly be comparisons, I don't think they're shooting for imitating the original four. I think the basic characters will be there, but there won't be much of a "this is Venkman," "this is Egon," kind of thing. I could be wrong. That said, several of the ladies who have been cast are quite capable of Bill Murray level snark. Kate McKinnon and Kristen Wiig come to mind right away.

Melissa McCarthy is a funny actress. Yeah, she's always playing the loud, sexually up front type, that's the typecast world we live in, but I've seen her do more nuanced comedy, and she's very good.

As for Leslie Jones, I had to look her up and watch a few sets of her stand up comedy, but she is very funny, and I look forward to seeing her in the film.

I think the success of the original movie was that it was an action adventure movie at its core. Take away the comedy and you had a solid standard movie of ghost hunters coming together to take down a big bad. The layering in of the comedy, especially Bill Murray, just elevated it to higher levels. Do that same exercise for the the 2nd movie and you're left with a lackluster story, the comedy was sub par as well and you could tell Murray just wasn't into it as much.

So for the new movie they need to do the same framework of crafting a solid non-comedic plot line that grabs your attention and is exciting. Then you insert in the comedy where you can. But you have to let the comedy flow out without trying to force it in. Don't know if this crop of actresses has that ability.

That was the genius of Harold Ramis. He could take someone else's dull story or dialogue twist it into something really funny in a way that seemed to take little effort.

As an aside from that pic, I've long grown past that phrase of "____ raped my childhood" or any variety thereof, cuz.....um, your childhood happened, and you still got the good memories of the show you liked. DS9 and TNG aren't cheapened for me just 'Cuz the time line no longer exists or whatever.

Still skeptical about this movie idea, thpugh.

Exactly. If it sucks, I won't count it, if it rocks, I'll proudly display it next to the first two.
    If it's "meh", then meh.

I was hoping it was more than that, after having read this:

    http://jezebel.com/new-all-feminist-ghostbusters-is-a-punch-in-the-dick-to-1682292125

It seemed unrelated to any actual reactions I've seen, and if the only concept is that women can retread old movies as well as anybody else, the faux angst wasn't worth any ink.

It's probably going to suck, like all remakes. The first movie was a perfect combination of period, casting and surprise. It was an original movie that would work well as a comedy even if you took out the supernatural elements and early 80's New York is as much a character as any of the actors.

The fact they are willing to take chances by shaking things up means there is at least a chance they'll stumble into something good.

My only gripe is that it is one of seemingly many reboots. My only reaction to the all-female cast is that it seems like a lame attempt to "modernize" it that some studio suit somewhere thought would be clever. It'll be interesting to see how this all turns out. I haven't seen any of this cast's previous works, and the only work of the director's I've seen was the last Naked Bullet movie.
