Dude's clearly acting out based on some personal issues at the moment, but he's not such an irredeemable poster that I want to see him completely gone. Maybe give Face some time off as well.
Unless Face has explicitly broken any rules today let him be, by authorising the name change staff basically endorsed him anyway.
Face makes me laugh. He's gotten temporary bans when he's gone too far before, but he hasn't done so in quite a while.
I'd say a week for FF with a short leash for a while and the same applies for Face. (Though I wouldn't look a perma-banning Face. FF, if he continues to be so thin-skinned might not be so lucky.)
I was thinking of a "bring balance to the Force" kind of thing. I mean, I've been happy to take jabs at FF, but I also know not to hit his buttons too hard. I mean, his river misadventure does match all the checkboxes for a suicide attempt, and while I've taken some shots at him related to it, I've done my best to avoid any that I thought could cause him to actually do the act. Not saying that Face was deliberately trying to goad him into something horrible, but I don't think that he fully considered what the consequences of his actions might be.
From my perspective some of what you were saying bringing that up crossed the line a little. I'd say it's better to just put this behind us now and give FF his week to chill, with a note to Face that he needs to be careful because if he does cross a line he's already been unofficially warned.
Without delving into things like my own personal and educational experiences, let me just say that there are times when telling someone, "You know what? Go ahead and kill yourself." can be beneficial. It helps them realize that they're engaging in attention-seeking behavior and that they need to shift their focus. Not saying that I got it right, just that I wasn't aiming to make FF unstable. That works too.
I believe the policy has been to grit our teeth and look annoyed as long as they refrain from posting outside the Red Room during the period in which they have that name/avatar/signature. Every post outside during that time is warnable, but we have refrained from warning prior posts, even if the name/avatar/signature change retroactively on the older posts.
