Are people really going to ignore what's going on just b/c it's gturner?

Well the pictures posted seem to match.

He has posted links to sites identifying himself as a person named George Turner. The so-called doxing involves links to a site run by somebody named George Turner, who otherwise doesn't seem to be the same person. Not clear on how this isn't just run of the mill trolling, using information that gturner himself has provided. Also, doesn't dosxing involve information about home address, employment, etc.?

Doxing involves posting identifying information such as home/work phone numbers and/or addresses, with the implication that physical harm should come to the person being doxed. What Chardman and Quest did is little more than someone posting links to one of garamet's novels or Castle's blog.

And I do think that they are the same person. I say this based not only on the similarities of the photographs, but also on the bizzaro answer about stalkers, and the low-number of people with the same name in Kentucky. FTR, I also have a stalker, and if someone confronted me about my identity on a message board, I wouldn't give the rambling response that gturner gave, I'd give a simple denial if I was worried that it might lead my stalker to where I live. (Less suspicious that way.)

Just heard about this. If this is the equivalent of when Tamar went quoting from Actormike's linked LJ page, I'd say leave it alone. If they really had to dig for this info and he actually never posted that, then smack them now hard.

FWIW, I'm not cheering Quest or Chardman's antics one bit. It was cheap when Tamar was pulling this shit and it's cheap now. But it's another reminder of why one is careful to post any personal info...especially when you're an asshole like gturner.

Ok, checked the thread and gturner doesn't seem torn up about it. If he has a problem, he knows where the HD is.

He also knows how to hit report post. When Chardman started calling him George several weeks ago, I briefly considered intervening, but then realized two things: 1) gturner had freely given that information by linking to his publications; 2) he didn't seem to care.

Hmmm. So Chardman has a deleted post in that thread that pretty much confirms it's gturner. I realize he doesn't seem that particularly upset about it and Chardman himself took it down, but I really feel uneasy about letting it slide entirely. There's a reason why I've said the staff has been noticeably improved with Tamar gone.

In general, I like the idea of letting people dial back minor slips. Federal Farmer briefly made his real name pretty easy to find as well, then pretty quickly stopped, and I don't think that brief slip should make it open season on his real info forever and ever.

With Federal Farmer, I had to explain to him how people figured out his name, and offered to give him a new identity here. Gturner may lie, but I don't think he actually cares to huide his identity. Why else would he post links to his publications, and boast that his works are used as references in wiki articles? It's akin to arguing that we should protect Dan Leach from people knowing his name.
