Does it matter? If he doesn't care about his posts being readable in all skins, then they just won't be readable. Not our problem.

Kinda sorta. This smells a little like the railroading of Castle all over again. A poster you don't like, so dream up and/or invent bullshit reasons to remove him.

Didn't we used to have a poster who wrote entirely in pink Comic Sans? It led to some ridicule, but never any staff action that I can remember.

Forbidding the use of colored text because some people use skins where it doesn't show up well is like forbidding the use of images because some people browse with them turned off. If you choose to view the board in a nonstandard way, that's your choice.

I don't think anybody is saying we should forbid colored text. But if a poster is engaging in obnoxious behavior, it's reasonable to tell them that they are. We don't need to just leave things as a complete free for all. Is obnoxious worth a ban? No. Personally, I don't mind gturner, but I also see no problem with an effort to make him less annoying to others. Anyway, he hasn't done it since the friendly (that I've noticed), so it's pretty much a non-issue.

When the large smilies in rep comments were banned, that actually was affecting the board and causing it to crash.

But this is just a mild annoyance, easy to avoid when you slap his ass on ignore.

And while it's one thing to say "Will you quit it with the formatting?" or "You know, your posts are pretty hard to read," it's another for a staff member to say "knock it off" and "consider this a friendly warning." The latter implies that some kind of official sanction will occur if the direction isn't followed.

For what it's worth, I am uncomfortable with the idea of any kind of sanction regarding the idea. I understand saying "knock it off" if they're posting huge images, and pages of giant sized gibberish, but using different font colors in a post? I don't see how it could be an issue.

This is why I started this thread, so I can get feedback on this type of stuff.

Sorry lanz, maybe your mate got a hard deal with his banning but his subsequent behaviour was so far ott as far as im concerned that any ban was deserved. In fact, it was so far that TK had to reign him in!
